Abstract
Apparatus for releasing snagged fishing hooks comprising a ring (1, fig 1) having a small weight (4, fig 1) attached thereto. The ring is placed over the end of a fishing pole and is transported to snagged hook via gravity. The apparatus is provided with a string and string connector (3, fig 1) for retrieval.
Description
The Rig Free System The Rig Free System is so called as it is designed to free a fishing rig' (hook, line and float) when the hook has become caught on a snag.
The system is for use when fishing with a pole.
The large ring is slotted over the fisherman's end of the fishing pole, sent to the other end of the pole using gravity, down the fishing line and when the ring has fallen all the way down the line and has come into contact with the hook, a slight tug of the attaches string will release the hook.
Using this device helps prevents considerable damage to tackle and also reduces the number of injuries from rapid return of the elasticated assembly held in the top end of the fishing pole which is tensioned when pulling back a snagged hook.
The Rig Free System is designed to release snagged' fishing hooks. The key aspects of the invention are: The design of the large ring. The diameter of the raw material is 2 to 3mm to allow the part to fit into the bend of the fishing hook giving a snug fit to help tug and release the hook.
The weight is hung' from the large ring. By hanging the weight, the manoeuvring of the assembly from one end of the pole to the other is far easier. This set up also helps bed the edge of the large ring in the bend of the hook in preparation to tug and release.
The attached string is used to tug the assembly when it settles in the bend of the hook and also used to retrieve the assembly.
Key to drawings: 1. Main ring: 75mm diameter ring. The exact diameter is not important but is designed to fit over the largest diameter section of a fishing pole.
Manufactured from a 2 or 3mm diameter material. Material type is not important but the ring must be able to withstand at least a 1 SIb pull force.
2. Connector Ring: A 12mm diameter standard surclip ring. The exact diameter is not important, the rings purpose is to connect the Main Ring, the weight and the string connector.
3. String Connector: A standard number 8 swivel. The exact size is not important, the swivels purpose is to connect the string to the surclip ring.
4. Weight: A 1 ounce standard fishing weight with integral swivel. The exact weight is not important, it's purpose is to aid the movement of the whole assembly from the operator end to the thin end of the fishing pole.
5. String: Minimum 151b breaking strain. The length should be at least 16 metre.
