Abstract

A refillable powder dispenser comprising a top 100, storage unit 200 and a rotating valve 300, enabling efficient transportation and delivery of consumable powders such as protein, creatine, coffee, salt and pepper. The rotating valve 300 ensures efficient, clean, and measured movement of powder between the storage unit and the desired receptacle. The valve 300 and top 100 incorporate shaped sections (150, fig 3.1) and (350, fig 5.1) enabling removal for cleaning, maintenance and replacement whilst ensuring that during normal use the parts remain together correctly. Valve 300 and top 100 also incorporate locking features (160, fig 3.1) and (320, fig 5.1) to ensure no accidental spillages of powders.

Description

POWDER DISPENSER FOR USE WITH CONSUMABLE
GOODS
The invention relates to a powder dispenser for use with consumable goods in the form of powder. Primarily it will be used with powders such as sports supplements however it can lend itself to the use of coffee, sugar, salt, pepper and all other powder forms of consumable goods.
There are currently no inventions like this available on the market to date.
This invention relates to the following problem: Powders such as protein and creatine are sold as sports supplements.
These are sold in large containers. A user will take a measure of the powder from the container using a measured scoop and pour this into a drinking bottle, known as a "shaker". The containers that the powders are sold in are large making it hard to transport them with you. Many people resort to using containers, smaller than that which the powder is sold in, to transport the powder with them for use throughout the day. This requires some method of measuring the powder to achieve the desired amount, such as a measuring scoop or spoon. The powder is measured or "scooped" out of this container and transported to the drinking vessel or "shaker". Once the powder is in the "shaker" it is mixed with water or milk and then consumed by the user.
The present invention seeks to provide an easy and efficient method of: * Transporting the powder in a more efficient manner than the large container it is sold in * Dispensing a measured amount of the powder into a drinking vessel or "shaker" with little mess and no requirement for use of a "scoop", spoon or other measuring device * Avoiding unnecessary over exposure of the powder which can lead to spoiling Accordingly the present invention provides a refillable powder dispenser comprising of a storage unit, for storing the powder, a removable top and a removable rotating valve for measuring the powder and moving it from the storage unit into the drinking vessel aided by gravity.
The storage part of the product has a method of attaching to the top part, creating a sealed unit to avoid leaks or spillages of powder. There are a variety of methods for this. The present invention uses threads allowing a seal to be created.
The present invention will now be more particularly described with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: Figure 1 shows the 3 parts, separated, in front elevation Figure 2 shows a section view, front elevation, of the 3 parts 100, 200 and 300 when assembled Figure 3.1 shows a section view of part 100 (TOP) in front elevation Figure 3.2 shows a plan view of part 100 Figure 4.1 shows front elevation view of part 200 (BOWL) Figure 4.2 shows plan view of part 200 Figure 5.1 shows a section view front elevation of part 300 (VALVE) Figure 5.2 shows plan view of part 300 Figure 5.3 shows side elevation of part 300 Figure 5.4 shows an isometric view of part 300 Figures 6.1, 6.2 and 6.3 show the stages of the product in use.
Figure 6.1 shows a section view of the dispenser, front elevation, complete with powder, 500, with 300 (VALVE) in "down" position.
Figure 6.2 shows a section view of the dispenser, front elevation, now turned through 180 degrees so that POWDER 500 has been directed through the funnel 130, aided by gravity, into the measuring section 310 of VALVE 300.
Figure 6.3 shows a section view of the dispenser, front elevation, now turned through 180 degrees and with VALVE 300 now in the "up" position so that POWDER 500, aided by gravity has been transported into the drinking vessel (NOT SHOWN).
Referring to the drawing TOP 100 comprises a dispensing tube 110, from which powder 500 leaves the dispenser, a hollowed area 120 and 170 allowing for the insertion of VALVE 300, a shaped funnel 130 helping the powder 500 to accurately and efficiently fill the measuring cup 310 of VALVE 300. Threads 140 and 210 allow 100 to be attached to and sealed with 200.
Specially shaped sections 120, 150, 160 and 170 are designed to house VALVE 300 tightly. VALVE 300 has been designed with a section that will compress 340. On insertion of 300 into 100, section 340 will compress allowing easy insertion. Once 300 is inserted fully into 100 section 340 will expand to original shape. When 340 expands to original shape section 350 will sit within the housing 150. This ensures that the parts stay together.
When VALVE 300 is inserted into 100 the raised section 320 will align with one of the two sections 160 to ensure the valve stays in either the "up" or "down" position.
VALVE 300 is turned using handle 330. The handle 330 is squeezed lightly to release the raised section 320, from its position within section 160, to enable the user to rotate the valve around its central axis within the TOP 100. When the VALVE 300 has turned through 180 degrees, raised section 320 will lock into the opposite section 160.
For normal use of the invention the user would remove the TOP 100 from the BOWL 200 in order to fill the BOWL 200 with powder 500. Once the user has filled the storage area 230 with powder they will then re-attach the TOP 100 using the threads 140 and 210 on parts 100 and 200.
As shown in figure 6.1, the user will have the VALVE 300 in the "down" position, ready to receive the powder 500. When the dispenser is turned upside down, through 180 degrees, gravity draws the powder 500 down the funnel 130 and into the measuring cup 310 of VALVE 300. At this stage the user will position the invention above the drinking vessel or "shaker" that is ready to receive the powder. Once measuring cup 310 is full of powder the user, keeping the dispenser upturned as shown in figure 6.2, rotates VALVE 300 through 180 degrees by lightly squeezing handle 330, and rotating the part within its housing. When VALVE 300 has been turned 180 degrees the powder 500, aided by gravity, will eave the measuring cup 310 via the dispensing tube 110, as shown in figure 6.3, and into the receptacle awaiting the powder.
Upon completion of this process the user may, if more than one measure is desired, while keeping the dispenser upturned, repeat the action and rotate VALVE 300 back to its starting position, refill the measuring cup 310, rotate VALVE 300 through 180 degrees and receive another measure of powder 500.
VALVE 300 is removable by squeezing handle 330 and compressing section 340 to enable contour 350 to slide past its housing 150. The VALVE 300 is removable for cleaning, maintenance or replacement urposes.
The invention can be cleaned manually and in a dishwasher.
