Abstract

An electricity meter, which includes a circuit breaker (24) having electrical terminals (26.1, 26.2, 32.1, 32.2) connectable to electrical cables (28) leading from an electrical source (30) and connectable to electrical cables (34) leading to a load (36) respectively, the circuit breaker(24) operable to open the circuit between the source and the load terminals (26.1, 26.2, 32.1, 32.2) and to close the circuit between the source (30) and the load (36), a temperature sensor (16) in thermal communication with the electrical terminals (26.1, 26.2, 32.1, 32.2), the temperature sensor (16) operable to measure a temperature at the terminals (26.1, 26.2, 32.1, 32.2), a controller (14) connected to the temperature sensor (16) for receiving temperature readings from the temperature sensor (16) and controllably connected to the circuit breaker (24) for opening and closing the circuit breaker (24), the controller (14) operable to read the temperature from the temperature sensor (16) and to open the circuit breaker (24) when the temperature exceeds predefined temperature parameters.
