Abstract
A parcel safe comprises an opening having a plurality of spring-loaded 2, comb-like 3 steel fingers 1 that are displaceable so as to allow a parcel or like item to be placed within the parcel safe but which prevent the withdrawal of the parcel through the same opening. The parcel safe is further provided with a holding area, a lid 5 to keep the holding area dry and a door 6 with a lock 7 permits the owner to remove parcels and the like from the holding area. Bolts 4 allow the parcel safe to be securely fixed to a wall or floor. In use, the parcel safe is used to store delivered parcels of various sizes and shapes securely and safely whilst the occupant of a property is out.
Description
Parcel-Safe This invention relates to a device for storing parcel deliveries securely and safely whilst the occupant is out.
In the modern times we live in, home parcel deliveries are on the increase, and with many homes being unoccupied during the day, there has been a rise in the number of parcels having to be returned to depots for next day delivery or collection.
This often leads to the householder leaving messages on the front door, asking the courier to deliver the parcel to a neighbour, or leave the parcel hidden around the property, where the parcel could easily be stolen or weather damaged.
The Parcel-Safe would allow the parcel to be delivered through the independent spring-loaded fingers into a safe and secure environment of the parcel-safe. The parcel(s) could then be retrieved from the safety of the safe at the house-holders convenience.
Figure 1 shows the side view of the Parcel-Safe, and demonstrates how the spring-loaded fingers mechanism works (1).
Figure 2 shows an aerial view of the Parcel-Safe, focusing predominantly on the steel fingers (1) and steel combs (3).
Figure 3 shows a view looking directly at one of the combs (3), and how the spring-loaded fingers (1) are situated within the comb teeth (3a).
In figure 1, the Parcel-Safe includes two sets of spring-loaded steel fingers (1); each finger has the ability to move independently. It is the steel springs (2) that allow the spring-loaded fingers (1) to move independently. The steel combs (3) allow the steel fingers to move up and down to allow the parcel through into the safety of the Parcel-Safe. The combs (3) are designed with security in mind, meaning that the fingers cannot be pushed from side to side. This prevents anybody from reaching into the safe.
The parcel therefore remains safe and secure within the Parcel-Safe; the lid of the Parcel-Safe (5) allows the parcel to stay dry until the owner returns.
Anchored bolts (4), positioned at the rear and base of the parcel safe allows the Parcel-Safe to be securely fixed to a wall or floor.
With reference to figure 1, it is the angle of the spring loaded steel fingers (1) and the way the fingers overlap in the upper part of the Parcel-Safe that provides the necessary security of the Parcel-Safe. The fingers cannot be pulled side to side due to the steel combs (3). The steel combs (3) cover the springs (2), which prevents the fingers from being pulled upwards.
The combination of all these items mentioned above; (1), (2), (3), (4) and (5) allow maximum security of the Parcel-Safe.
In figure 2, it shows the steel spring-loaded fingers (1) from above, in their closed position and the how the steel combs (3) hold the fingers (1) in place. The outward hinging door (6) and the door lock (7) enable the parcel to be securely held in place until the owner returns to unlock the Parcel-Safe door (6).
Figure 3 shows a view looking directly at one of the combs (3), and how the spring-loaded fingers (1) are situated within the comb teeth (3a). The combs (3) and comb teeth (3a) are designed to keep the fingers (1) in their individual positions as a parcel passes into the safety of the Parcel-Safe. The fingers (1) are able to move vertically down between the comb teeth (3a) but their movement is limited due to the base of the comb being closed. This is to prevent anybody from tampering with the safety of the Parcel-Safe.
Claims (4)
- Claims 1. A Parcel-Safe compnsing of two sets of spnng-loaded steel fingers, held together by individual steel spngs allows a parcel to move and remain in the hold of the Parcel-Safe until the occupant returns.
- 2. A Parcel-Safe consisting of two steel combs allows the steel fingers to move up and down vertically between the comb teeth. In-between the comb teeth there are closed ends to keep the fingers within the comb and allow them to return to their oginal position.
- 3. A Parcel-Safe that can be designed in all manners of sizes and styles to suit the occupant.
- 4. A Parcel-Safe with the option of bolting it to a wall or floor for added security.
