Abstract

247,405. Niccoli, E. March 6, 1925. Potassium sulphate.-Relates to a process for the production of potassium salts from sea water, in which mixed salts are deposited by evaporation of the brine after most of the sodium chloride has been deposited, and the mixed salts are purified by dissolving in water, adding magnesium sulphate and evaporating, when a double salt K2SO4,MgSO4,6H2O crystallizes out. The potassium salt is recovered from the double salt by dissolving the double salt in water and adding a reagent capable of precipitating magnesium, for example milk of lime or sodium or potassium carbonate.
