Description
Oil scraper
Description
The invention relates to an oil scraper by means of which oil can be scraped from a crank shaft of a combustion engine.
It is known to provide an oil scraper for a crankshaft of a combustion engine in the form of a scraper sheet, be means of which oil can be scraped from the crank shaft. The scraper sheet comprises protruding blades, which comes near to the crankpins of the crank shaft scraping the oil from the crankpin. The scraper sheet is fastened be means of a plurality of screws to an oil pan and/or an engine block of the combustion engine.
It is a disadvantage of such kind of an oil scraper, that the assembling is complicated and takes a long period of time.
It is the object of the invention to provide an oil scraper for a crank shaft, by means of with the assembling is facilitated.
The solution of the object is achieved by the features of claim 1. Preferred embodiments are given by the dependent claims.
The oil scraper according to the invention, which can be used for a crank shaft of a combustion engine, comprises a scraper sheet for scraping oil from the crank shaft. According t o the invention the scraper sheet is connected to a gasket for providing at least partially a sealing between an oil pan and an engine block of the combustion engine.
Since the oil scraper is connected to the gasket, the oil scraper is at least partially provided within a sealing gab between the oil pan and the engine block.
Thus, the oil scraper provides in addition to the oil scraping function the function of sealing the oil pan to the engine block. Due to the sealing function by means of the gasket the oil scraper is fastened via the gasket by the fastening of the oil pan to the engine block. A separate fastening of the oil scraper is not necessary leading to a facilitated and faster assembling of the oil scraper. Further the oil scraper is held in the intended position by means of the fastening of the oil pan to the engine block. The gasket part of the oil scraper can be designed like a flange, so that a large connecting area of the gasket is provided, which leads to a stiffening of the scraper sheet. Due to the increased stiffness the oil scraping efficiency may be increased. Further it is possible to choose a smaller sheet thickness for the scraper sheet leading to less production costs.
Most preferred the scraper sheet and the gasket are one-piece. A separate connection between the scraper sheet and the gasket can be omitted. Further the number of assembling parts is reduced. Particularly it is possible to manufacture the scraper sheet and the gasket simultaneously from the same base material.
Preferably the scraper sheet and the gasket are connected to each other via webs. Preferably the webs are arranged in a gab between the scraper sheet and the gasket, wherein particularly the remaining gap may be filled with an elastomeric material for providing a sealing between the oil pan and the engine block.
Most preferred the gasket is provided with an elastomeric material, wherein the gasket particularly comprises a depression for receiving at least partially the elastomeric material. Particularly the gasket is not fully coated by the elastomeric material but only partially provided with the elastomeric material for instance in the region of connecting webs between the gasket and the scraper sheet. Since a high amount of the forces between the oil pan and the engine block are received by the frame of the gasket material the forces applying to the elastomeric material are significantly reduced. Since only a comparable low force is sufficient for providing a sufficient sealing by means of the elastomeric material, a less robust and more cost-efficient material can be chosen. Particularly the elastomeric material is provided on the upper side as well as on the lower side of the gasket, this means between the gasket and the engine block as well as between the gasket and the oil pan. Preferably the elastomeric material is provided on opposing surfaces of the gasket. The gasket material may be thinner with respect to the remaining gasket material particularly for providing a depression on two opposing surfaces of the gasket.
Preferably the shape of the scraper sheet and the shape of the gasket are chosen such, that the scraper sheet and the gasket are producible together by stamping and forming, particularly drawing. It is possible to provide a metal sheet as base material, which is subjected to a stamping process. The stamped sheets can be formed, particularly by deep drawing, for providing its three-dimensional shape. During the forming step protruding blades for scraping oil from the crankpins can be provided. This leads to a facilitated manufacture process.
Particularly the gasket is formed as closed ring following the contour of connection faces between the oil pan and the engine block. The gasket may be shaped like a flange. Since the gasket provides a full sealing between the oil pan and the engine block a further sealing element is not necessary.
Preferably the gasket comprises at least one fastening opening, particularly at least two fastening openings, for feeding through a fastening means. Due to the fastening openings the oil scraper is automatically adjusted into its intended position during the fastening of the oil pan to the engine block. Further a fastening is possible through the connection faces for the sealing.
An additional protruding flange for fastening the oil pan to the engine block is not necessary leading to a compact building space.
Particularly the gasket comprises at least one channel opening for providing a fluid channel between the engine block and the oil pan. Due to the fluid channel it is for instance possible to lead cooling water to a water cooler for cooling cylinders of the engine block. By means of the gasket the fluid of the fluid channel do not come into contact with the oil of the oil pan.
Preferably the scraper sheet comprises at least one drain opening for discharging scraped oil to the oil pan.
Oil, which may be scraped from the crankpins by means of corresponding blades of the scraper sheet, may flow along an upper surface of the scraper sheet to the drain opening. Via the drain opening the scraped oil may be discharged to the oil pan, where the scraped oil may be filtered and used again.
Particularly the scraper sheet is at least partially inclined particularly for leading scraped oil the oil pan. The oil may be led via an outer edge of the scraper sheet to oil pan. Due the inclined shaped the scraped oil may be fed along the upper surface in a discharge direction of the scraper sheet to the oil pan. The scraper sheet comprises preferably a rounded shape in cross sectional view in discharge direction. Due to this design oil may flow along the upper surface of the rounded part of the scraper sheet to the deepest part and then in discharge direction along the inclined way via the outer edge to the oil pan.
Most preferred the gasket comprises a higher ductility than the oil pan and the engine block. Due to the higher ductility the gasket of the oil scraper may deform for providing a good sealing. The material of the gasket may comprise ACM, wherein the oil pan and/or the engine block are for instance made from cast iron. The main component of the gasket material may be steel like is used for steel sheets.
The invention further relates to a combustion engine for a motor vehicle, which comprises an oil pan and a engine block, which comprises a crank shaft. Further an oil scraper for scraping oil from the crank shaft is provided, whereby the oil scraper may be designed as previously described. The oil scraper is fastened only via its gasket between the oil pan and the engine block.
Due to the sealing function by means of the gasket the oil scraper is fastened by the fastening of the oil pan to the engine block. A separate fastening of the oil scraper is not necessary leading to a facilitated and faster assembling of the oil scraper. No additional screws are provided for fastening the oil scraper separately.
Particularly the engine block comprises a bed plate, whereby the engine block is fastened to the oil pan via the bed plate. Due to the bed plate a lower support for 0 the crank shaft may be provided. The crank shaft may be supported between the bed plate and the upper part of the engine block.
These and other aspects of the invention will be apparent from and elucidated with reference to a preferred embodiment described hereinafter.
In the drawings: Fig. 1 is a schematic perspective exploded view of a part of a combustion engine, Fig. 2 is a schematic top view of an oil scraper of the combustion engine of Fig. 1, Fig. 3 is a schematic perspective detail view of the detail III of the oil scraper of Fig. 2 and Fig. 4 is a cross sectional view of the part illustrated in Fig. 3.
The combustion engine 10 as illustrated in Fig. 1 comprises an oil pan 12 connected to an engine block 14.
For sake of clarity only a bed plate 16 for supporting a not illustrated crank shaft of the engine block 16 is illustrated in Fig. 1. An oil scraper 18 is provided for scraping oil from crankpins of the crank shaft by means of protruding blades 20. The blades 20 are part of a scraper sheet 22, which is one-piece with a gasket 24.
The scraper sheet 22 is connected to the gasket 24 via webs 26, wherein the gasket 24 is securely provided between the oil pan 12 and the engine block 14. The gasket 24 comprises fastening openings 28 for feeding through screws, which are used for fastening the oil pan 12 to the engine block 14. The gasket 24 further comprises a channel opening 30 for providing a fluid channel 32 between the engine block 14 and the oil pan 12.
As illustrated in Fig. 2 several webs 26 are provided for connecting the scraper sheet 22 to the gasket 24. In the illustrated embodiment the webs 36 are arranged in a gap 34 between the scraper sheet 22 and the gasket 24, wherein the gab 36 may be filled with an elastomeric material 46 for providing a sealing between the oil pan 12 and the engine block 14 in a later manufacturing step. The webs 26 are mainly only provided along longitudinal sides 36. However a connection at rear or front sides 38 by means of a web 26 is still possible.
In the alternate the gap 36 may be omitted, wherein the scraper sheet 22 and the gasket 24 are connected to each others via a mainly continuous line along the longitudinal sides 36 and/or the rear sides 38.The scraper sheet 22 comprises blow by openings 40 for discharging blow by gases from the oil pan 12 and drain openings 54 for discharging oil to the oil pan 12 from the scraper sheet 22. Further channels 42 are provided to be received by ribs of the oil pan 12. This leads to a correct alignment of the scraper sheet 22 with respect to the oil pan 12.
As illustrated in Fig. 3 the gasket 24 is provided with an elastomeric material 46 for sealing the oil pan 12 to the engine block 14. The elastomeric material 46 is provided on an upper surface 48 as well as on a lower surface 50 of the gasket 24. The elastomeric material 46 is provided on opposing surfaces 48, 50 of the gasket 24.
The elastomeric material 46 completely covers the web 26.
The elastomeric material 46 is arranged partially in a depression 52 as illustrated in Fig. 4. The gasket 24 and/or the web 26 is thinner with respect to the remaining gasket 24 for providing the depressions 52 on both sides of the gasket 24.
