A device suitable for sitting on, especially while weeding or performing similar tasks, comprises a container A, a lid G adapted to support the weight of the user, a base B that is stable on the ground, and a hole E to allow items to be placed or stored in the container. The device may have at least one handle F, may have two handles that are substantially parallel to one another, or may have no handles. The device may be square, circular, triangular, D-shaped, oval or any other suitable shape in plan view.

Description

Title: Appliance for weeding and similar tasks Descriotion of invention This invention relates to an appliance that can be used to help the user sit down and work at ground level and collect items in the appliance. The appliance has been developed to help with weeding, but it can be used in any situation where working at ground level and collecting items in the appliance is required, such as e.g. removing nails from a wooden floor and/or storing items in the container such as weeds to rot down.
When bent over or kneeling a person can suffer from back ache, joint pains, bone aches and muscular pains also sore knees due to the ground being damp.
When carrying out tasks like weeding that require putting the body in these positions it would help if the person could sit on something, many people sit on a bucket or seat but then they need another bucket to collect the weeds/nails.
Kneeling and sitting devices exist but the person would need a kneeling or sitting device and a container for the collection of items.
It is the object of this invention to give an appliance which can be sat on and used to collect items without the need for a separate container.
The appliance may be circular, oval, D shaped or any suitable shape when looked on in the plan view. The container will have a lid on the top to enable the user to empty the container; it will also have an opening on the container or lid to allow the user to put the items in the container without taking the lid off.
The container and lid combined when sat on will be able to support the weight of a person. The lid may have cushioning on it to allow the appliance to be sat on for extended periods of time. The appliance will be wide enough at the base of the container to sit stably on the ground and not cause excessive compaction on the soil, the appliance will also be wide enough to fit an average person's posterior.
Preferably the container will have a handle on either side in order to carry the container.
The invention will now be described by the way of example with the accompanying drawings.
Figure 1 is a front elevation view of the appliance according to the invention.
Figure 2 is a side elevation view of the appliance. Figure 3 is the plan view of the appliance. Figures 4, 5 and 6 are respectively a side elevation view and two plan views of alternative embodiments of the invention.
The appliance illustrated in figures 1 and 2 comprises of a container A of frusto conical form this is made up of a base B and a side wall C which may have strengthening members to support and distribute weight. The rim may be thicker at the top circumference D or folded over to give strength. The opening on the container E may protrude slightly to stop rain running in. The sides of the container may have handles F wide enough to fit an average hand in. The lid G may push fit over the rim D or simply sit on top, it may have strengthening members to aid support of the weight and cushioning on the upper side to make it comfy to sit on for extended periods of time. The lid G is illustrated as flat but may be slightly concave for the comfort of the user. The base B is also illustrated flat but may be concave or have raised lines to aid grip and durability of the appliance. The handles F will be thick enough to support the weight of the appliance when it is being carried at full capacity and may be shaped to a more anatomical form.
Figure 3 is the appliance in plan view A, B, C, D are the same as in figures 1 and 2 the opening is E the handles are F and the lid is G. The container A and the lid G may be made of plastic or any suitable material.
Figures 4, 5 and 6 show alternative embodiments of the invention. Figure 4 shows the appliance in side view, A is the container B is the base C is the side wall D is the thickened rim E is the opening F is the only handle and G is the lid. Figure 5 shows the appliance circular in plan view A,B,C,D are the same as in figure 4, E is the opening F is the handle and G is the lid. Figure 6 shows the appliance circular in plan view A,B,C,D are the same as in figure 4, the opening E is on the lid G and it has no handle. The lid could also be separated from the container and used as a kneeling pad if that is desired.
It will be appreciated that the container and lid may be of other form other than those illustrated while retaining the principle use of the appliance; the invention can be used for tasks other than weeding. The features described in the fore going description or the following claims or the drawings, expressed in their specific forms or in terms of a means for performing the function, or a method or process for attaining the disclosed result as appropriate may be separately or in any combination of such features be used for realising the invention in diverse forms thereof.
