Abstract

A castor adaptor 1,2 is arranged to fit around a furniture castor 4 to enable the castor to be used with a separate furniture raiser [Figure 4] or to act as a furniture raiser for the castor. The adaptor, which is of generally cylindrical form when fitted, has two halves 1, 2 which clamp around a spigot 3 of the castor 4. The two halves of the castor adaptor may be formed separately or as one-piece joined by a living hinge 11.

Description

A CASTOR ADAPTOR
DESCRIPTION
The use of furniture raisers is well known. Such devices are placed under furniture or beds to raise their operating heights. Some available furniture raisers have various means of attaching themselves to the furniture leg. Such means include tie on' methods and friction methods. Such methods of retention do not work well when the furniture has castors fitted. The purpose of the present invention is to provide an adaptor that can clamp a range of different castor types.
The attached drawings show the operation of the invention and comprise: -Fig #1 shows the castor adaptor open and ready to fit to a castor.
Fig #2 shows the castor adaptor open and with a castor in place.
Fig #3 shows the castor adaptor closed and with a castor in place.
Fig #4 shows the same features as Fig #3 and ready to be placed in the top of a furniture raiser.
Fig #5 shows the castor adaptor on a furniture raiser and ready to be used.
Now referring to the figures the present embodiment of the invention comprises a castor adaptor arranged with a living hinge (Ii) that allows it to be opened as shown in Fig #1 and closed as shown in Fig #3. Thus the castor adaptor comprises two halves, a castor adaptor left side (1) and a castor adaptor right side (2). The part holes (5) (6) (7) are provided in different relative positions to the centre line of the castor adaptor (1) (2), these holes allow the castor spigot (3) to be positioned in the required position. For clarity the drawings are all drawn with the furniture removed, a castor spigot (3) would normally be inserted into the underside of the furniture.
The castor is placed in the selected position in one side of the castor adaptor (1) (2) as shown in Fig #2 and the castor adaptor (1) (2) closed as shown in Fig #3. The castor adaptor (1) (2) can then be placed in a furniture raiser as shown in Fig # (4) (5). The retention of the invention can be by means of an adjustable clamping tie (9) that is releasable by the clamping tie release button (10).
In other embodiments of the invention the castor adaptor (1) (2) can be made as one part, two separate parts, or as any number of parts that may be hinged or joined in any other manner.
In further embodiments of the invention the castor adaptor (1) (2) can be arranged to fit inside or outside any other design of furnittire raiser with or without clamping means.
In a still further embodiment of the invention the castor adaptor (1) (2) can be arranged to be clamped together and form a furniture raiser in its own right.
Accordingly the present invention comprises a castor adaptor comprising one or more parts that can retain the spigot of a castor, such that the castor is retained within the castor adaptor.

Claims (9)

  1. CLAIMSI) A castor adaptor comprising one or more parts that can retain the spigot of a castor, such that the castor is retained within the castor adaptor.
  2. 2) A castor adaptor as claimed in claim I where the castor adaptor is arranged to fit inside a furniture raiser.
  3. 3) A castor adaptor as claimed in claim 1 where the castor adaptor is arranged to fit outside a furniture raiser.
  4. 4) A castor adaptor as claimed in claim 1 where the castor adaptor is arranged to fit to a furniture raiser by any means.
  5. 5) A castor adaptor as claimed in claim 1-4 where the invention is made of one part hinged with a living hinge to allow the castor adaptor to be opened to facilitate fitting around the castor spigot.
  6. 6) A castor adaptor as claimed in claim 1-4 where the invention is made of any number of parts that are not joined.
  7. 7) A castor adaptor as claimed in claim 1-4 where the invention is made from any number of parts, some or all of which are joined by flexible or other types of joint.
  8. 8) A castor adaptor as claimed in claim 1-7 where the castor adaptor is arranged to fit a furniture raiser and be used to raise the castor off the floor.
  9. 9) A castor adaptor as claimed in claim 1-8 where the castor adaptor is arranged to be clamped together and used as a furniture raiser in its own right and without the need of an additional furniture raiser.Page 3 Amendments to the claims have been filed as followsCLAIMS1) A castor adaptor comprising at least one part, arranged such that it can clamp the spigot of a castor in such a way that there is little or no horizontal movement of the castor spigot within the castor adaptor and said castor adaptor having external vertical surfaces arranged such that when placed within a vertical opening of a furniture raiser the said castor adaptor is kept in a closed and locked position such that it cannot open to release the castor spigot.2) A castor adaptor as claimed in claim 1 where the castor adaptor is arranged to fit inside a furniture raiser.3) A castor adaptor as claimed in claim 1 where the castor adaptor is arranged to fit outside a furniture raiser.4) A castor adaptor as claimed in claim I where the castor adaptor is arranged to fit to a furniture raiser by any means.5) A castor adaptor as claimed in claim 1-4 where the invention is made of a single piece hinged together by a living hinge to facilitate fitting around the castor spigot.6) A castor adaptor as claimed in claim 1-4 where the invention is made of at least two parts that are not hinged together or joined in any way.7) A castor adaptor as claimed in claim 1-4 where the invention is made from any number of parts, some or all of which are joined by flexible or other types of joint.8) A castor adaptor as claimed in claim 1-7 where the castor adaptor is arranged to fit a furniture raiser and be used to raise the castor off the floor.9) A castor adaptor as claimed in any preceding claims where the castor * adaptor is made up of one or more parts that can be clamped around the spigot of a castor so as to retain the spigot such that the castor adaptor can be used as a furniture raiser in its own right and without the need of an additional furniture raiser.
