Abstract

246,326. Thomas, D. Feb. 17, 1925. Hand-exercising apparatus.-One or more of a series of thimbles is mounted each on a lever adapted to swing against spring restraint when actuated by a finger inserted in the thimble to exercise the finger. In the apparatus shown, two thimbles B, D are mounted on levers J, the upper ends of which cross each other and are mounted on pivots J'. Levers J<2> connected by a pin and slot Q are mounted on the pivots, and carry projecting arms R through the ends of which passes a rod O<1> having two springs 0 adjustable by a wing-nut O<2>. All the thimbles A - - E are mounted on trunnions U, in holders G, while in addition the thimbles B, D have their holders G mounted on a pivot H permitting a further turning movement which is limited by a stop L<1>. Four fingers are placed in adjacent thimbles and alternate pairs of fingers, e.g. the 2nd and 4th, may be exercised. The thumb is placed in a recess M in the base F. The thimbles B, D may be adjusted along the levers J by screws V. An additional thimble S may be carried from an arm Y secured by a screw Z to the top of the column K which carries the arms J. A rubber ring may be fitted into the bottom of each thimble. According to the Provisional Specification, each thimble may be provided with a loose lining, capable of rotation in the thimble but held against removal by a pin.
