Abstract

A cylindrical bodied valve designed to eliminate pressure build-up in sealed containers and environments comprises a valve member A that is held against its seat by three hinged adjustable compression springs B. A rise in internal pressure causes the valve member A to lift off its seat thus relieving pressure. No electronics are involved and the valve is mechanically operated.

Description

Pressure Relief Valve This invention relates to a valve which permits air-flow to prevent pressure build up.
The heat from the sun and external elements can affect the internal pressure and expansion of a sealed volume. Unless this is released, serious and expensive damage can result with equipment/machinery concerned.
To solve this problem, the invention that is being proposed is a pressure relief valve. The design will be calibrated in a way which allows internal mechanical movement to release specific volumes of air, avoiding build up within the container it is connected to.
Advantages; * No electronics will be required for its operation.
* It is intended that minimal maintenance will be needed.
* The interface of the design will be able to be used on many applications An example of the invention will now be described by reference to the included drawings; * Figure 1 explains shows the valve in a close position * Figure 2 shows the valve in an open position permitting flow An externally threaded disc is screwed into an internally threaded cylindrical body, which poppet (A) is connected to (by 3 screws) via a central shaft. The central shaft goes freely through the centre of the disc and screws into bottom spring base (C).
3 compression springs (B) are hinged by pins each end, to both the disc and the bottom spring base (C). This allows the mechanism to move freely, but, spring back' into position when extruded.
As internal pressure pushes against poppet (A) from the inside, this moves accordingly as depicted. When the right amount of air has escaped from the sealed container, the poppet (A) will spring back into its initial position, due to the nature of the springs it uses. This will then effectively re-seal the container.
The valve is to use no electricity in its function, it is purely mechanical.

Claims (4)

  1. Claims 1. A pressure relief valve, in which internal mechanical movement is permitted by 3 hinged compression springs.
  2. 2. A pressure relief valve, in which the internal movement will be in one direction, either vertically or horizontally, depending on mounting orientation.
  3. 3. A pressure relief valve, in which an internal thread is included enabling user adjustment of spring compression, tolerating different flow settings for a single unit.
  4. 4. A pressure relief valve, in which the load causing the valve to open decreases to near zero as the mass flow increases.
