Abstract
246,078. Dehn, F. B., (Rudd, Manufacturing Co., E. G.). July 17, 1924. Latches, swinging, for automobile doors, are pivoted on a base plate and operated by a follower through a slide pivoted to the latch and sliding on the base plate, the slide being out of contact with the base plate except for a short portion of its length. The latch 17 is pivoted at 16 on the base plate 10 and is operated by a slide 19 having a cranked part 24 pivoted at 26 to the latch. The slide is cut away at 20 forming a hole through which passes the spindle 34 carrying the follower-boss 38, arms 39 on which engage shoulders 40 on the slide to move it to withdraw the latch. A spring 28 keeps the follower spindle in normal position and a spring 27 acts on the slide to keep the latch shot. The slide is guided by a lug 21 sliding in a slot 22 in the base plate. The thickened part 23 of the slide is the only part of it which is in contact with the base plate. The upper face of the part 23 slides under the bridge-piece 30 on which rests the spacing member 32 attached at its other end to the outside panel of the door.
