Abstract

An envelope 1 has front and back edges 3 to which adhesive is applied, there being a line of perforations 7 a short distance from the edge. In order to seal the envelope 1 , the edges 3 are pressed together. The envelope 1 is opened by tearing along the perforations 7 , thereby removing the edge 3 with the adhesive applied. The envelope 1 may have more than one removable edge 4, 5, 6 with perforations 8, 9, 10 .

Description

Description
Secure Easy Access Envelopes.
This invention relates to a perforation applied to an adhesive edge on an envelope.
Envelopes typically have four edges. And when they are opened, they are usually ripped open at the edge with the gummed flap below it.
Sometimes they are ripped open at the edge(s) adjacent to the gummed flap. This can mean envelopes look untidy once opened at best or cause injury to those with frail fingers at worst, such as Old Age Pensioners (OAPs) or even accidentally damage the contents of the envelope. Letter openers help. However is an added cost, aren't used by everyone and can still cause damage to the contents of the envelope.
To overcome this, the present invention proposes an envelope without the gummed flap. Instead, the open edge of the envelope is adhesive and has a perforation applied to it. The envelope is closed by attaching the two sides of the envelopes adhesive edge together securing its contents. To open, the edge is then simply ripped off along its perforation. As this is the only way to open it, it makes for a secure envelope. It also makes for an easy, cost effective, risk free and convenient clean cut edge.
Preferably, this would be a perforated adhesive edge that can be ripped off, such as with a pay slip. However there could be more than one perforated adhesive edge applied on any one envelope.
Key to Drawing An example of the invention will now be described by referring to the accompanied drawings: * Figure 1 shows a typical envelope (for the sake of example), and; * Figure 2 shows an adhesive edged, perforated envelope according to the invention.
Gummed flap 2 is removed as it is no longer required. Adhesive edge 3 now has perforation 7 applied, on envelope 1. The envelope is closed by attaching the two sides of the envelopes adhesive edge 3 together. To open, the adhesive edge 3 is simply ripped off along the perforation 7. This same technique can be used on any edge of an envelope such as with adhesive edges 4, 5 or 6, using perforation 8, 9 or 10. An envelope can also have one or more perforated adhesive edges applied to it. * ** * * * * ** *..S * * **** * ** * I * **** * S.. * S. * S S S... S. * S.

Claims (4)

  1. Claims 1 Envelopes without the usual gummed flap but instead with an adhesive edge and a perforation applied to said adhesive edge.
  2. 2 Envelopes according to claim 1, in which the envelope is closed by attaching the two sides of the envelopes adhesive edge together.
  3. 3 Envelopes according to claim 2, in which the envelope is opened by simply ripping of the adhesive edge along its perforation.
