Abstract

An inline skate comprises side attached members to engage the ground when the skate is inclined, preferably the members are wheels 11, mounted to rotate at right angles to direction of motion of the skate, but they may comprise rotating balls or skid or grind plates or pads that slide along the floor, the side members may be adapted to fit on a boot or other footwear.

Description

SIDE WHEEL ATTACHMENT TO INLINE SKATES
DESCRIPTION
The use of inline skates is well known both for nonnal use as an alternative to a conventional four wheeled roller skate and as a wheeled simulation for ice skates. When inline skates are being used to simulate ice skates then the usage is often on an indoor floor. Some performed moves involve dragging one foot along the floor. Such moves can allow hard parts of the skate frame and/or parts of the boot to contact the floor, and such contact can cause the skater to slow down, physical damage to the floor, marking of the floor, aggravating noise, or a vibration to the performers lower leg and foot.
The purpose of the present invention is to ensure that when a skate is dragged along the floor the resulting movements are smooth, relatively noise free and cause no damage to the floor.
Attached Figures: -Fig #1 shows a three dimensional view of an inline skate with the invention fitted and is suited for use on the right foot.
Fig #2 shows a front view of an inline skate with the invention fitted suitable for a right foot and is drawn at a typical operating tilt angle.
Fig #3 shows the top view of an inline skate suitable for a right foot and with the invention fitted.
Fig #4 shows the side view of an inline skate suitable for a right foot and with the invention fitted.
A typical inline skate comprises a frame comprised of a left hand side frame (3) and a right hand side frame (2), these being joined by a ball of foot sole attachment plate (4) and a heel attachment plate (5). Such a frame is attached to the underside of suitable foot ware by means of a series of attachment holes (21) (22). Attached within the frame are blade wheels (6) (7) (8) (9) (10) and these wheels are secured by blade attachment means (15) (16) (17) (18) (19).
If the inline skate is to be used for simulated ice skating then it will be fitted with a simulated toe rake (1). If the inline skate is to be used as a conventional inline skate then a brake will be fitted to its rear end (not shown in figures).
The present invention relates to a side addition to a typical inline skate as described. The side addition involves a forward side wheel (11) and a rear side wheel (12) attached to the side frame of the skate by attachment means (13) (14) Fig #2 shows a typical view of the invention in use and being drawn across a floor (37). The position of the side wheels (11) (12) is such that they prevent the frame parts from contacting the floor (37). Both the ball of foot sole attachment plate (4) and heel attachment plate (5) are arranged such that the attached footwear (not shown in the figures) protrudes beyond the said attachment plate (4) (5) and prevents said attachment plates (4) (5) from contacting the floor. All of the figures and description relates to an inline skate suitable for use on a right foot and being dragged on the inside' of the right foot. In normal use the inline skate for the left foot will be a mirror image of the described right hand foot inline skate. If the invention is to be used for some more exotic moves then the inline skate can be dragged on their outside edges providing side wheels are added to the outside frames.
The two side wheels (11) (12) can be replaced by one side wheel or any number of wheels to suit an application.
In another embodiment of the invention the side wheels may be replaced by free to rotate balls, by one or more fixed pads designed to slip over the floor or another floor engaging device.
In other embodiments of the invention the side wheels may be attached to other forms of skates such as conventional inline skates and skates of the traditional' type with wheels that are not inline.
In a still further embodiment of the invention the wheels may be attached to a boot or other footwear, said boot or other footwear may or may not be attached to a skate.
Accordingly the present invention comprises the addition of at least one side member to at least one side of a skate, boot or other footwear such that said side member is floor engaging when the skate, boot or other footwear is inclined at a required angle.
