Abstract
A mobile bin washer comprises a washing and drying system mounted on a truck to wash and dry rubbish bins on the spot. The lorry will move from house to house, washing and drying refuse bins of registered households. The apparatus will include a washing and drying unit that will include a clean water tank, a soapy water tank, a waste water collection tank, a filter arrangement allowing dirty water to be reused and a mechanical brush arrangement. The apparatus will be controlled by an electronic control unit that will run the washing and drying processes.

MOBILE BIN WASHER (MBW-08) Concept Mobile Bin Washer (MBw-o8) is a washing and drying system mounted on a truck to wash and dry rubbish bins on the spot. The truck will move from house to house, washing and drying rubbish bins of registered households for a fee. The fee will be charged for each bin washed. Households can pay via direct debit for one washing a week or pay a pre-advertised fee per bin washed on the spot if they can do so while the truck is in their area. The service will be provided by Premier Ghana Limited.
Problem Identification Many households in the UK have rubbish bins that are usually placed in front of the houses. Bins are emptied either weekly or fortnightly. Experience shows that many bins are left with bad smell or odour after they have been emptied. This is unhygienic, apart from the fact that the bad smell leaves visitors with a bad impression of the homeowner. Mobile Bin Washer (MBW-08) and the accompanying service are being developed to provide a business solution.
Equipment MBW-08 will be designed to incorporate into one complete system: * A washing and drying unit * Two water storage units, with a water filtering system * A waste repository unit * An electronic control unit with digital control panel.
Washing & Drying Unit The Washing and Drying Unit will use mechanically controlled brushes that wash both inside and outside of the bin. The system should be able to take at least three bins at a time. There will be a soapy wash, followed by dean water rinsing with disinfectants. This should then be followed by hot-air blow drying. The two processes should take maximum three minutes. If this time span is achieved, the system should averagely wash 60 bins an hour.
Water Storage Units There will be two Water Storage Units for clean and soapy water. There will be a filter between these units and the Washing and Drying Unit. This will ensure that both soapy and clean water will be reused throughout each day, emptied and refilled the next day.
Waste Repository Unit There will be a Waste Repository Unit that will receive all dirt and rubbish filtered from both the soapy and clean water during washing and rinsing. This will be emptied as and when it gets full.
Electronic Control Unit There will be an Electronic Control Unit that will be used to programme the washing and drying processes.
