Abstract

An air-to-air heat pump system has a first passageway with an inlet 10 and an outlet 11 both communicating with air outside a building, and has a second passageway with an inlet 12 and an outlet 13 both communicating with relatively warm air inside a room within the building. The first passageway has a first heat exchanger 8 and the second passageway has a second heat exchanger 9, both arranged within a refrigeration system with a compressor 4, an expansion valve 7, and associated pipe work 15. During a heating cycle the first heat exchanger cools the ambient air and the second heat exchanger heats the inside air. The heat pump system also includes a fan 5 arranged in the first passageway which draws ambient air over the first heat exchanger and a fan 6 arranged in the second passageway which draws air over the second heat exchanger. The heat pump system is arranged in a cabinet 1 and absorbs heat energy from the ambient air and delivers the heat energy to the room by use of the refrigeration circuit.

Description

DESCRIPTION. --
A SPECIAL HEAT EXCHANGER, COMPRISING TWO SEPARATE COMPARTMENTS EACH WITH ITS OWN CIRCULATING FAN AND A FINNED COIL HEATER/COOLER
BATTERY MOUNTED IN A CABINET AND ARRANGED TO OPERATE AS A
REFRIGERATOR IN REVERSE, WHEREBY AIR IS DRAWN INTO THE FROST.
COMPARTMENT BY THE FAN AND HEAT IS EXTRACTEDFRON LOW TEMPERATURE
AMBIENT,OUTSIDE AIR PASSING OVER THE FINNED COIL COOLER BATTERY CONTAINING THE REFRIGERANT,CIRCULATED BY THE NORMAL.TYPE COMPRESSOR UNIT, THE COOLED OR CHILLED AIR IS THEN DISCHARGED TO OUTSIDE.
THE REFRIGERANT, WHICH HAS EXTRACTED THE HEAT, THEN IS PUMPED THROUGH THE EVAPORATOR FINNED COIL HEATER BATTERY1 AND THE FAN IN THIS COMPARTMENT,CIRCULATES ROOM AIR OVER THE BATTERY,TO WHICH THE HEAT IS TRANSFERRED.THEREBY RAISING THE ROOM TEMPERATURE THE ROOM AIR IS THEN RECIRCULATED.
THUS,THE HEAT FROM THE EVAPORATOR MAY BE USED TO HEAT A BUILDING AS DESCRIBED,INSTEAD O17JBCTING IT TO WASTE, -AS HAPPENS WITH THE NORMAL REFRIGERATOR.
FIG, 1, SHOWS THE ARRANGEMENT OF THE HEAIJEXCHANGERi FIG2. IS A GRAPH SHOWING THE HEAT CONTENT IN THE AMBIENT AIR, BASED ON THE METROLOGIC&LOFFICE RECORDS GIVING AVERAGE..
TEMPERATURES FOR SOUTH OF ENGLAND OVER THE PERIOD FROM 1971 TO THE YEAR 2000, ALSO, MIN. AIR TEMPERATURES, AS SHEET No.5.
ON COLD WET, CHILLY DAYS IN THE SPRING, SUMMER AND AUTUMN, WHEN THE CENTRAL HEATING IS SWITCHED OFF, IT IS OFTEN FOUND
NECCESSARY TO SWITCH ON ELECTRIC FIRES AS SUPPLIMENTARY
HEATING.-WICH IS WASTEFUL AND EXPENSIVE.
IN MANY INSTANCES, MUCH OF THIS SUPPLIMENTARY HEATING CAN PROVIDED BY THIS SPECIAL HEAT EXCHANGER-ALMOST FOR FREE,
EXCEPT FOR THE COST OF RUNNING THE COMPESSOR UNIT AND THE
SMALL CIRCULATING FANS. ---FROM THE AIR ON OUR DOORSTEP.
--WITH ACKNOWLEDGE MENTS TO TH' INVENTOR OF THE REFRIGERATOR KARL VON LINDE.Circa 1870.
