Abstract

An evidence marker is formed by folding a paper board 1 of a sector shape composed of five consecutive and connected triangles (1A-1E, Fig 2) of which the first and fifth triangles overlap and are fixed to each other to form a square cone. An arrow indicator 2 is rotatably attached to one of the triangles by a positioning button B fitted into a positioning hole defined in the triangle. A bottom board is divided into two halves that are folded to overlap each other and is provided with scale-like indexing mark 13 to serve as a measuring means when the evidence marked by the marker is photographed, with the marker in shot. The bottom board may have apertures to allow a fixing bar to be used with the marker.

Description

TITLE: EVIDENCE MARKER
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
(a) Technical Field of the Invention
The present invention relates to an evidence marker, and in particular to an evidence marker comprising a hollow square cone formed by folding a sector-shaped paper board composed of five triangles that can be easily formed and can be collapsed for easy storage by stacking.
(b) Description of the Prior Art
The progress of modem society brings the improvement of living standard and taste of fine and value articles. Thus, burglary and other crimes occur more frequently than ever. To solve each crime, the criminal scene must be carefiuliy investigated in order to collect evidences, which may be as tiny as a hair or as delicate as a finger print. These evidences left in the criminal scene must be marked for subsequent collection and information gathering. Conventionally, a plastic evidence marker, such as that made of acrylic, is used to indicate an evidence at the site of the criminal scene and, if desired, a picture of the evidence is then taken. Such a conventional evidence marker is bulky and heavy so that it is not easy to store for subsequent use. hi addition, it may cause cross contamination. Further, in case a large number of evidences are distributed in a very limited space, there must be evidence markers of different specifications in order to clearly separate and indicate the evidences and for picture taking. However, the memory of the investigator for these markers and the associated evidence may get lost and it becomes difficult to identify a specific evidence among a number of crowded evidences. As a consequence, the conventional evidence marker cannot properly fulfill their function.
In view of the above discussion, it is desired to have an improved evidence marker that overcomes the drawbacks of the conventional evidence markers.
SUMMARY OF ThE INVENTION
The primary purpose of the present invention is to provide an evidence marker, which comprises a hollow square cone formed by folding a paper board of a sector shape composed of five triangles with first and last triangle overlapping and bonded to each other. Alternatively, the board can be made of plastics rather than paper.
Another objective of the present invention is to provide an evidence marker having a square cone having one surface forming a positioning hole that receives a positioning button that secures an indicator arrow in a rotatable manner for properly pointing to a piece of evidence.
A further objective of the present invention is to provide an evidence marker that comprises a bottom board extending therefrom, the bottom board being folded to position under the square cone for positioning purposes.
A further objective of the present invention is to provide an evidence marker that comprises a bottom board of which the first and second halves can be folded to overlap each other, the halves forming aligned cross aperture for the extension of a fixing bar to stably fix the evidence marker at a location close to an evidence.
Yet a further objective of the present invention is to provide an evidence marker that comprises a hollow square cone that is collapsed to a flattened form for easy stacking and storage.
The foregoing object and summary provide only a brief introduction to the present invention. To ftilly appreciate these and other objects of the present invention as well as the invention itself, all of which will become apparent to those skilled in the art, the following detailed description of the invention and the claims should be read in conjunction with the accompanying drawings. Throughout the specification and drawings identical reference numerals refer to identical or similar parts.
Many other advantages and features of the present invention will become manifest to those versed in the art upon making reference to the detailed description and the accompanying sheets of drawings in which a preferred structural embodiment incorporating the principles of the present invention is shown by way of illustrative example.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS
Figure 1 is a perspective view showing an evidence marker constructed in accordance with the present invention; Figure 2 shows a blank of a paper board that is folded to form the evidence marker, together with a positioning button that secures a rotatable indictor arrow to the evidence marker; Figure 3 is a perspective view illustrating folding a bottom board under the evidence marker; Figure 4 is a perspective view illustrating rotating the indicator arrow to point to an evidence that is marked by the evidence marker; Figure 5 is a perspective view illustrating using a fixing bar that extends through cross apertures defined in the bottom board to stably fix the evidence marker at a location close to the evidence; and Figure 6 is a perspective view illustrating stacking a plurality of similar evidence marker together for storage.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS
The following descriptions are of exemplary embodiments only, and are not intended to limit the scope, applicability or configuration of the invention in any way. Rather, the following description provides a convenient illustration for implementing exemplary embodiments of the invention.
Various changes to the described embodiments may be made in the function and arrangement of the elements described without departing from the scope of the invention as set forth in the appended claims.
With reference to the drawings and in particular to Figures 1-6, which show a criminal scene evidence marker constructed in accordance with the present invention, the evidence marker in accordance with the present invention is formed by folding a paper board 1. The paper board 1 is of a sector shape that is composed of five identical triangles IA, I B, 1 C, ID, I E with apexes thereof coincident with each other and adjacent ones of the triangles having a common side. Among the five triangles lA-IF, the fifth triangle IF is set overlapping the first triangle IA when the first to fourth triangles 1 A-I E are folded along their common sides to form a square cone of the evidence marker. One of the triangles lA-iD, for example the third triangle 1C, is provided with a positioning aperture 12 for receiving and engaging a positioning button B that secures an arrow indicator 2 to the evidence marker. The same triangle, which in the example given is the third triangle IC, has a bottom from which a rectangular indexing bottom board 13 extends. The bottom board can be folded about a central line thereof to have a front section overlapping and bonded to a rear section. In a center of each of the front section and rear section a cross opening 15, 1 5A is defined.
To practice the present invention, the five triangles are folded to form a square cone structure, which serves as a marker in accordance with the present invention. The first and the fifth triangles overlap and are bonded to each other to set the square cone structure. The third triangle I C is further provided with the arrow indicator 2 to allow a criminal scene investigator to set the arrow 2 to point to an evidence in the criminal scene, as illustrated in Figure 4. The rectangular indexing bottom board 13 is folded to have two halves thereof overlapping and bonded to each other, and if necessaly, the overlapped halves of the bottom board 13 can be further folded under the cone with the indexing mark exposed, see Figure 3. The indexing mark of the bottom board 13 may provide a measuring means for an evidence photographed as a picture. In case that the marker cannot be stably positioned by an evidence in the criminal scene, a fixing bar may be forcibly and partly fit into the overlapped cross apertures 15, 1 5A of the two halves of the bottom board 13 for fixing the evidence marker at a location close to the evidence, as shown in Figure 5. The evidence marker in accordance with the present invention, when not in use, can be collapsed in a flattened form that facilitates storage of plural evidence markers, as shown in Figure 6.
The overlapped halves of the bottom board 13 can be only bonded to each other by adhering a free edge of the front half to the opposing edge of the rear half so that the un-bonded edges forms a gap or space therebetween for selectively receiving a weight, such as a pebble of a suitable size therein to stably retain the evidence marker on for example the ground. It is preferred that an un-used and collapsed evidence marker can be fit into the space to serve as the weight.
It will be understood that each of the elements described above, or two or more together may also find a useful application in other types of methods differing from the type described above.
While certain novel features of this invention have been shown and described and are pointed out in the annexed claim, it is not intended to be limited to the details above, since it will be understood that various omissions, modifications, substitutions arid changes in the forms and details of the device illustrated and in its operation can be made by those skilled in the art without departing in any way from the spirit of the present invention.
