Abstract

A centrifuge with its rotor arms 1 each having an insulated electrically conducting wire wrapped around them 6. This wire is then connected to coils of an insulated electrically conducting wire embedded in a sleeve 5 which is connected to the rotor arms and the drive of the centrifuge 4. Inside the sleeve is a spindle 3, which has magnets embedded in it 2, and is connected to the casing of the centrifuge via struts 7. The insulated electrically conducting wire which is wrapped around the rotor arms may have electricity supplied to it by an external power supply.

Description

* 2448134 The high speed centrifuge This invention relates to a
centrifuge in which the rotor arm is extra resistant to the centrifugal forces exerted on it.
When a centrifuge is running at full power the rotor arm is exposed to very high centrifugal forces which will eventually limit the maximum rpm that the centrifuge will be able to do, due to it breaking, stretching or snapping. To overcome this, the present invention proposes a centrifuge consisting of a rotor arm in which the rotor arms each have insulated electrically conducting wire wrapped around or embedded in all or part of them, to magnetise them when electricity is supplied to the insulated electrically conducting wire which is wrapped around or embedded in all or part of the rotor arms, the rotor arms being made of a material that can be magnetised.
Electricity supplied to the wire wrapped around the rotor arms will magnetise the rotor arms and this will pull the rotor arms inwards counteracting the centrifugal force that is pulling the rotor arms outwards as the centrifuge rotates.
Preferably, the magnetisation of the rotor arms will be performed using electricity supplied from an external power supply.
Preferably, the insulated electrically conducting wire wrapped around or embedded in all or part of the rotor arms is connected to coils of insulated electrically conducting wire embedded in or wrapped around or inside a sleeve, which is attached to the rotor arms and a drive of the centrifuge, that has a spindle inside it with magnets embedded in it or around it which is connected to the centrifuge casing, WhiCh generates electricity in the coils of insulated electrically conducting wire which is embedded in or wrapped around or inside the sleeve when the rotor arms and thus the sleeve is rotated, the faster the rotor arms spin the more electricity is generated thus the more magnetised the rotor arms become resulting in more inwards force to counteract the increased centrifugal force that is generated as the centrifuge spins faster.
An example of the invention will now be described by referring to the accompanying drawing: -figure 1 shows a side view of the high speed centrifuge according to the invention.
A centrifuge I has insulated electrically conducting wire wrapped around each rotor arm 6. The coils of insulated electrically conducting wire wrapped around each rotor arm are connected to coils of insulated electrically conducting wire which are embedded in or wrapped around or inside a sleeve 5, the sleeve then leads to the drive of the centrifuge 4 and is also attached to the rotor arms. Inside the sleeve is a spindle 3 which has magnets embedded in it or around it 2 which is attached to the centrifuge casing via struts 7. The spindles magnets generates electricity in the cods of insulated electrically conducting wire which is embedded in or wrapped around or inside the sleeve when the rotor arms and thus the sleeve is rotated, the faster the rotor arms spin the more electricity is generated thus the more magnetised the rotor arms become resulting in more inwards force to counteract the increased centrifugal force that is generated as the centrifuge spins faster. Electricity may be supplied to the insulated electrically conducting wire wrapped around the rotor arms using electricity supplied from an external power supply.

Claims (3)

  1. Claims I A centrifuge consisting of a rotor arm in which the rotor arms
each have insulated electrically conducting wire wrapped around or embedded in all or part of them, to magnetise them when electricity is supplied to the insulated electrically conducting wire which is wrapped around or embedded in all or part of the rotor arms, the rotor arms being made of a material that can be magnetised.
  2. 2 A centrifuge according to claim 1, in which the magnetisation of the rotor arms will be performed using electricity supplied from an external power supply.
  3. 3 A centrifuge according to claim I, in which the insulated electrically conducting wire wrapped around or embedded in all or part of the rotor arms is connected to coils of insulated electrically conducting wire embedded in or wrapped around or inside a sleeve, which is attached to the rotor arms and a drive of the centrifuge, that has a spindle inside it with magnets embedded in it or around it which is connected to the centrifuge casing, which generates electricity in the coils of insulated electrically conducting wire which is embedded in or wrapped around or inside the sleeve when the rotor arms and thus the sleeve is rotated, the faster the rotor arms spin the more electricity is generated thus the more magnetised the rotor arms become resulting in more inwards force to counteract the increased centrifugal force that is generated as the centrifuge spins faster.
