Abstract
A one piece assembly retro-fit replacement lamp for fluorescent light fitting device with external Light Emitting Diode (LED) light panel and an internally housed LED power supply unit designed to allow the assembly to be installed into an existing fluorescent light fitting to replace the existing light source with a LED light source. The one piece assembly with an internally housed LED power supply when installed in an existing fluorescent light fitting uses the incoming mains power but isolates and makes redundant the fluorescent tube power supply and supplies the correct power output to operate the LED light panel. The assembly can be retro fitted in existing fluorescent light fitting of any length and eliminates the need to replace the existing light fitting when a more efficient and longer life light source is required.
Description
LED (light emitting diode) Retro Device For Fluorescent Light Fittings
This invention relates to retro fitting existing T8 and TI 2 fluorescent light fittings with a LED light panel to replace 18 and T12 fluorescent tubes of any length.
Standard fluorescent light fittings used in the Europe and throughout the world are known as T8 and T12. They use T8 and T12 type fluorescent tubes. The T12 tube has I.5'/ 35mm diameter and the T8 a l"/25mm diameter. The length of the fluorescent tube varies depending on power output. The maximum length of T8 and T12 fluorescent tubes is 8' / 2400 mm T8 and Ti 2 fluorescent tube light fittings use electromagnet or electronic control gear or ballasts (transformers). These components are fitted inside every fluorescent light fitting and without this component no fluorescent tube would work.
There are devices which can be used to retro fit existing T8 and T12 fluorescent light fittings so the existing light fittings can use the more efficient T5 tubes. However there are 6' /1800 mm and 8' I 2400 mm T8 and 112 that cannot be retro fitted with more efficient 15 tubes because T5 fluorescent tubes are only manufactured to a maximum of 5'/ 1500mm.
All fluorescent tubes are inefficient when compared to current LEDs (Light Emitting Diode) This invention seeks to improve the efficiency of existing TX and 112 fluorescent tubes and to overcome the problem of replacing any length T8 or T12 fluorescent tubes and their ballasts (transformers) with a more energy efficient and more environmentally friendly LED (Light Emitting Diode) Light Panel.
it is retro fit device which can be used to improve efficiency of an existing fluorescent light fitting by replacing the existing fluorescent tube light source with a more efficient LED light source and to extend the life of the existing fitting, which does not have to replaced.
The invention device is a complete, one piece assembly, light fitting complete with its own internal LED power supply and external LEDs lighting panel. It is designed to enable the complete assembly to be retro fitted and installed into an existing fluorescent light fitting for operational purposes.
The ends of the device are exactly the same shape, diameter, design as a standard 18 or 112 tube. The device has 2 metal pins which protrude out of each end of the device. These are the same design, shape and size of the 2 pins that protrude, and can be found on the end of every T8 or 112 fluorescent linear tube.
These two device pins are fixed and located on to the device in the same position as found on a 18 or 112 tubes. The complete device therefore has the same diameter at each end as the T8 or T12 tube, the same overall length of the 18 or T12 tube and the same 2 pin connectors, which it replaces.
When the existing T8 or T12 tube is removed the complete device is installed in the existing T8 or T12 light fitting in place of the removed T8 or T12 tube, in the same way as a T8 or 112 fluorescent tube would be normally replaced. The complete device therefore mimics' the same shape and approximate dimensions of the T8 or T12 tube to be replaced.
When the device has been installed in the TX or 112 light fitting the device, which is in itself a complete LED light fitting with its own internal and integral LED power supply, is ready for operation The existing ballast (transformer) fitted inside the TX or T12 light fitting is by-passed by the internal and integral LED power supply which allows this LED power supply to override the existing ballast which is made redundant.
The LED power supply in the device is connected through a metal conductivity assembly connecting LED power supply unit to the mains power supply of the T8 and TI 2 light fittings, thus allowing electrical power to the LED power supply and LED light panel. It is this power from the LED power supply which ignites and powers the externally mounted LED light panel.
The device is a complete LED light fitting, designed to enable it to replace 18 or T12 tubes that are removed from an existing TX or 112 light fitting. The actual installation of the complete device into the T8 or TI 2 fitting is a similar procedure as that of replacing a used 18 or 112 tube with a new one.
The one piece assembly device therefore allows more efficient and longer life LEDs to be used in existing 18 and T12 light fittings and thus providing an alternative to the complete removal and replacement of the existing 18 or 112 fluorescent light fittings when a more efficient, energy saving light source and a reduce Co2 emissions are required.
A preferred embodiment of the invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawing in which: FIGURE 1: Shows a plan view of the one piece assembly and the externally mounted LED light panel. Some LED's of the light panel are shown on this plan view.
FIGURE 2: Shows a side elevation and end view of the one piece assembly.
FIGURE 3: Shows an end view of the body of the frame of the assembly which incorporates the externally mounted LED light panel and houses the internally fitted integral LED power supply unit and power supply components.
In Figure 1 the one piece assembly includes an external LED light panel, number 2. This panel is incorporated onto the frame of the assembly. Power to the LED light panel is supplied from a integral LED Power supply, number 3, which is housed inside the frame of the assembly.
Figure 2 shows the externally mounted LED Light Panel number 2 and internally mounted LED Power supply unit number 3.
Figure 3 shows the externally mounted LED Light Panel number 2 and internally mounted LED power supply unit number 3.
