Abstract

A hand held rubbish compactor comprising a T-shaped handle 1 and a pressure plate 3 with rounded corners to allow the compactor to fit into the corners of wheelie bins. Preferably the pressure plate has four folds in the middle of the plate to prevent the plate from bending. The handle may be detachably secured to the pressure plate by a bolt 4.

Description

WHEELY BIN RUBBISH STOMPER

The invention relates to a handheld tool which is manually used to compact rubbish in a wheely bin which has been named The Stomper'. The Stomper comprises of a handle, specially shaped high strength base plate, a threaded boss, a washer and a bolt. The Stomper can be assembled and taken apart very easily and can be stored away quickly.

To store the maximum amount of rubbish in a wheely bin, rubbish must be compacted. The average householder will either use a spade or broom to compact rubbish or physically jump on the rubbish in the wheely bin to compact it down. A broom or spade is not very effective at compacting rubbish and jumping in a wheely bin is dangerous.

The object of this invention is to compact rubbish in wheely bins effectively and safely so the maximum amount of rubbish can be stored in the bin until collection day. This will mean less trips for the householder to rubbish tips with excess rubbish and could mean the householder's local authority, could collect wheely bins fortnightly instead of weekly, saving the local authority money, which could in turn could be used elsewhere on resources such as schools and education.

The Stomper is painted and can be cleaned easily. The Stomper's unique base plate, even allows rubbish to be compacted in the corners of the bin, all 4 corners of the bin can be compacted easily without having to change grip position when using the Stomper, maximizing efficiency. The base plate has also been designed with 4 folds In the centre making the plate extremely strong.

As shown in Figure 1, the wheely bin rubbish stomper comprises of a handle (1), with a threaded boss (2) welded in to the bottom of the handle (I), a base plate (3) with four diagonal folds in the middle ( which gives the plate strength) and has 4 radiussed corners (to allow *.:. compaction of rubbish in the corners of wheely bins) is attached to the bottom of the handle * (1) by passing a bolt (4), through a grip washer (5) , through a hole in the plate (6) and then is inserted into the thread in the boss (7) and fixed tightly is position locking the plate (3) : * * securely to the bottom of handle (1).

Moulded grips (8) are then pushed over the two ends of handle (I) to form the finished handle.

To use the stomper, the wheely bin user simply holds the handle by the grips (8), lifts the stomper over the rubbish in a wheely bin and then applies force down handle (1) onto the base plate (3), and onto the rubbish. The stomper is then lifted up and down until the rubbish has been compacted to a suitable level.

The stomper is then stored by either sliding the plate under the wheely bin until the handle stands flush with he front of the bin or by undoing the bolt and removing the plate from the handle and storing in a cupboard or hanging it on a wall. * * * *.. * 0*** I. * * * * * **

Claims

Claims 1. The wheely bin rubbish Stomper is a hand held rubbish

compactor comprising of a pressure plate and a T' shaped handle that is bolted to the pressure plate. The corners of the pressure plate are curved to a specific radius so the stomper can fit tightly in the corners of wheely bins enabling the stomper to compact the whole area of the wheely bin.
2. The pressure plate has four folds in the middle of the plate to give it high strength and to prevent it from bending. The plate itself is unique and is the key to the success of the tool
3. The handle can be detached and secured easily to the plate by simply inserting or removing the fixing bolt. Allowing easy storage and simple transportation.
4. The handle has a threaded boss welded into the base of the square hollow section handle which receives the bolt after it has passed through the plate to form the fixng.
5. The stomper is made from steel and is painted and can be easily cleaned.
