Abstract

The disposable pressure preservation cap has four components. This one piece moulded cap has an internal screw thread and lip incorporated in the moulding. At the top is a rip cord designed to facilitate the removal of the top of the cap. At the bottom is a moulded first use seal similar to those commonly used. This is a moulded rubber like diaphragm with a hole at its top and a lip at its bottom designed to wrap around the top of component three. This is a moulded plastic cup with a lip at its top and a moulding at the bottom to accommodate component four. This is a moulded rubber like flexible plug with a cone shaped nib in its centre and ventilation holes between the centre and outside edge. Pumping air into a container using the cap increases the air pressure inside the container and reduces the gas lost by the liquid. The cap may be provided with two diaphragms, the first to pump air and the second to form a one way valve.

Description

Description
This device is called The Disposable Pressure Preservation Cap (DPPC) it has been designed to prevent carbonated drinks from losing their fizz when stored after opening. The DPPC incorporates a one way valve and a flexible diaphragm making a simple pump.
Carbonated drinks are fizzy due to the liquid being pressurised with carbon dioxide gas, when the bottle is new it is sufficiently pressurised to hold the gas within the liquid.
When the bottle is opened for use the air pressure inside the bottle is greatly reduced and allows the gas to seep from the liquid into the air gap between the liquid and the cap of the bottle.
Pumping air into the bottle using the DPPC increases the air pressure inside the bottle and reduces the gas lost by the liquid as less gas needs to escape from the liquid to reach pressure equilibrium.
