Abstract

244,402. Toronto Type Foundry Co., Ltd., (Assignees of Hitchcock, R.). Dec. 13, 1924, [Convention date]. Sheet-separators; pile supports; sheet-guides.- Sheet-feeding machines of the suction type are constructed with a rotary suction member or head d formed with rows of suction holes d<3> which are brought in succession into communication with a fixed exhaust chamber e, Fig. 3, so that the rows of suction holes d<3> act in succession to separate and forward the sheets from a fanned-out pile a advanced in fanned-out form by feed tapes b. The hooks d' either communicate with separate passages d' in the head d, which rotate past apertures in a face plate e<1> attached to the fixed suction chamber e, or, as shown in Fig. 6, the suction chamber is connected to a passage d<4> formed in an extension arm e<2> shaped to ensure contact of the inner periphery of the head with the arm e<2>. To ensure uniformity in the suction action along the width of the sheet, the apertures d<3>, Fig. 3, are made of increasing sizes from the left or inlet end to the right end of the head. To prevent the sheets from adhering to the suction heads, guides or strippers d<2> are arranged in front of and behind the head, and are accommodated in annular grooves d<1> in the head.
