Abstract

An antibacterial solution with grapefruit extract as the active ingredient. The anti-bacterial solution is effective to use as a hand spray and is free of any alcohol as it contains a natural active ingredient as its biocide. This solution is safe to use on the skin and will kill 99.999% of bacteria. The solution also contains an emollient. This solution (hand spray) has been developed to reduce the spread of bacteria, infections and cross contaminations. It is suited for use in toilet areas, hospitals, food preparation areas and any environment, which is at risk.

Description

A NATURALLY BASED ANTI-BACTERIAL SOLUTION ( HAND SPRAY) BACKGROUr'D
This Invention both KILLS and also provides a lasting protection against the growth of BACTERIA induding on the SKIN. This is especially useful when used on 1HJ HANDS as an ANTI-BACTERIAL HAND SPRAY.
Unlike other Anti-Bacterial Solutions and Hand Sprays the ACTiVE AGENT is NATURALLY Based being GRAPRFRUJT EXTRACT and contains no Alcohol, Salts or Disinfectants.
The growth of Bacterial, Risk of cross-contamination and spread of Infections in public places including Hospitals is extremely high. This is due to Bacteria being picked up and spread by the Human Hand i.e. Touch. This contamination happens everywhere however certain key areas, Such as, Hospitals, Food preparation areas, Toilets and Public Areas are potentially HIGH RISK AREAS of Cross-Contamination. Anywhere the spread of bacteria could cause a SERIOUS HEALTH HAZARD.
Alcohol Sprays and Gels are available which are extremely effective and Quick Acting, however have the following problems associated with them: 1. The Alcohol only stays effective on the skin for a short amount of time as it very quickly evaporates into the atmosphere, which also can cause the drying out and cracking of the skins epidermis if used on a regular basis.
Unfortunately in order to ensure the correct required level of the Anti-Bacterial effectiveness these must be used on a very frequent basis.
2. As these products are INFLAMMABLE the transporting and storage of these should be carefully considered, however in many cases is mainly ignored through ignorance. In fact these cannot be stored in any dispensers larger than a 1 Litre capacity as they form a potential Fire Risk. It is not widely advertised but these gels and sprays should not be stored or transported in any quantity without the correct Fire Certification and approvals and indeed without these any Insurance claims would be null and void! A NA11JRALLY BASED ANTI-BACTERIAL SOLUTION (HAND SPRAY) 3. Some Alcohol based products have been found to bleach and cause premature breaking down of textile fibres on clothing such as, Jacket cuffs etc. when used over a period of time.
4. In some Intensive Therapy Centres i.e. Mental Homes, Alcohol Dependency Units, Drug Rehabilitation Centres etc. it has been found that Patient/Inmates will Consume' the Alcohol Products in order to produce A HIGH' and in doing this can cause extreme problems. In one case a Patient in a Mental Care Home, causing damage but luckily no loss of life, had also set the Dispenser alight.
5. There are an increasing number of Religious Groups who are either forbidden or chose not to INGEST' Alcohol in any form. This includes the use of ANY Alcohol Gel or Spray, as this once comes into contact with the skin can enter the blood stream and be INGESTED' into the body.
These groups were once a minority in Europe but are now becoming increasingly integrated and important to the Western World. These groups indude Muslims and Hindus and indeed not only are there a Health issue but also an equal rights issue that an alternative should be offered. This is causing severe problems in HIGH DEPENDANCY WARDS.
A NATURALLY BASED ANTI-BACFERIAL SOLUTION ( HAND SPRAY
STATEMENT OF INVENTION
1. To overcome the above, this invention is a NATURAL water based product with Grapefruit Extract added as its Active Anti-Bacterial Agent/Ingredient' and therefore is not in any way TOXIC or INFLAMMABLE.
2. This Solution contains an emolument, which will moistunse the skin whilst protecting against bacteria making it an ideal ANTI-BACTERIAL HAND SPRAY.
3. This Invention is not a HARSH CHEMICAL like Alcohol is and in fact has been found to clean, remove stains and rejuvenate some fabrics such as, Suede, Cottons and Silks etc.
ADVANTAGES
This Invention has been tested to KILL 99.999% of the Bacteria tested for, which includes MRSA within 60 Seconds.
This Solution/Hand Spray contains NO ALCOHOL and therefore can be safely used by anyone including Children.
This Solution/Hand Spray stays active on skin far longer than Alcohol Sprays and therefore continues to actively KILL Bacteria and be effective longer.
This Solution/Hand Spray contains an emolument, which will moisturise the skin whilst protecting against bacteria.
This Solution/Hand Spray has a pleasant CITRUS Smell unlike some Alcohol Based products.
A NATURALLY BASED ANTI-BACTERiAL SOLUTION ( HAND SPRAY)
DETAILED DESCRIPTION
The following INGREDIENTS are added together and mixed in the correct proportions to produce a liquid solution. These INGREDIENTS could alter, be omitted or replaced in the event of any legislation in the future or product enhancement.
1. AQUA 2. PROPANOL (2 -methoxymethlethoxy) 3. COCAMIDOPROPYLBETAIN 4. POLYSORBATE 20 5. PROPYLENIEGLYGOL 6. GRAPEFRUiT EXTRACF ( DIPHENOLHYDROXYBENZENE) 7. GLYCOLLIC ACID 8. SODIUM HYDROXIDE 9. LIMONENIE 10. C1TRAL 11. LINALOOL 12. C1TRONELLOL 13. GERAMOL The resultant solution is then tested to BS EN1276: 1997 Standard to ensure that it kills 99.999% of the Bacteria that it is tested for.
This SOLUTION can then be used on the skin to kill Bacteria and is especially effective in killing Bacteria on the hands when applied, rubbed into the skin and left to dry naturally.
The main active components that kill Bacteria in the finished SOLUTION are a group of quaternary ammonium chlorides, induding benzethonium chloride or a compound or compounds nearly identical to it, that weaken the mitochondrial membranes of bacterial and fungi, resulting in death of the organisms.
