Grids or gratings; strainers comprising grids or grating.-Metal laminae for use in edge filters are made thinner in some parts than in others by etching in the ordinary way or by covering the parts which are to be thinner with a substance which has absorbed etching fluid. Alternatively, laminae may be treated with a sand blast when covered by a perforated plate. The Figures show laminae 1 with thicker parts 2. The laminae may be held together by a rod passing through them, the rod having a feather and the laminae corresponding grooves so that the thicker parts of the laminae will be superposed.
