Abstract

A garden pest deterrent/trap (eg for slugs, snails, ants or similar) completely surrounds one or more plants/other objects and has at last one impassable surface, which may be too rough, sticky, odorous or dangerous for the pests to cross. The impassable surface may be a moat which may be filled with salt-water/beer. The moat may have fins (cross-section type 1, fig 5) for easier ground insertion. The moat may have a waterproof lining (fig 6). The deterrent/trap may be continuous or be made of differently sized connectable sections. An odorous substance may be impregnated into the deterrent/trap or be sprinkled thereon. Rooves may protect against rain (figs 9,10). Hooks may be provided for attachment to a window box/plant pot/trough. Folded sections may secure a flat, annular deterrent/trap (figs 1, 2).

Description

11 1 2338164 -1 1 GARDIET, PEST DETERRENT/TRAP The invention relates to a
deterrent and/or trap which protects seedlin'gs, plants or any other objects ( such as pet fecd from attack from slugs, snails 9 ants and suchlike crqatures.
There are various products on tie market which offer this protection most of,,;hich ar,:; Icisonous and take zhe for.m of pellets or particles These are scattered arcund the 1-1ant/ object. There is always a risk that children or other creatures may pick up or swallow the poison. The pellets op pArtibles'ofteh-dissolve and need to bb constantly replaced, There are more leco-friendly' products such as slug traps which maie use of beer, milk or yeast to lure the creatures away from the plant/ object and trap or drown it. These methods do not provide constant protection or protection from all access points.
The object of5 this invention is to provide a det--rrent/ trap constantly protuccts the object fronli all access: -cints at -,:.ound lev.jl o_--The deterrent/trap surrounds the plant/ object at ground level or otherwise. It prevents attack from pests by providing surface types that these creatures cannot cross. The surfaces that 'he deterrent/trap provides may be either too rough-,too sticky, too odorous or too dangerous to cross. The deterren--',/'krap is a flat, curved, or tilted ready-made surface type. It is folded or angled in parts and these parts are ridgid er-cugh to be pushed into the ground to keep the rest in place (see FIGURES 1,2ard3). Then in order to provide an unpassable liquid si,rface or to contain deterrent or trapping substances, the deterrent/trap is a moat or trench (see FIGURES 5,6 and 7) The deterrent/trap is made in one continuous piece to fit over the plant/',bject ( see FIGUIREE land5) It is E.1so made in sections which may te easier to fit around or re-ove and/or are adjustable ( see 2,4,6,and7). It can be provided in any shape, size, width nd depth to fit around a variety of plants/objects or arcund groups of plants/objects.
It may be ridgid or malleable. it is al.o made with attatchments for example, hooks, to enable it to at any level arcund for example, a window box, trough or flower border. Rooves to prevent unwanted rain - water '1allinj, cyt the de'(erren4-/zrap are also Proviced ( see!,'-'GU-YES) ana,).
2 The deterrent/trap makes use of any permitted deterrent or trapping substance or substances or any permitted substances which produce a repellant smell. These may be impregnated into the material that the trap is made of, sprinkled or coated on or used in Solution The deterrent/trap is made of any suitably effective materials or combination of materials ranging from traditional terracotta to match existing garden furniture to metal, plastic or any other weatherproof materials which can provide the surface requirements such as bituminous fabric or rubber. The linin:- as mentioned in FIGURE 6 is made from any low cost waterproof material such as polythene and any joins ray be made water-resi-stant with a mastic sealant.
Specific embodiments of 'he invention will now be described by way of exe. .,T.,1,le with reference to the accompagnied drawings.
