Abstract

A dispenser for ground bait comprises a cylindrical tube D, a plunger E and a base F. Movement of the plunger E can compress any ground bait inside the tube D, either against the bottom of a container from which the ground bait is drawn or against the base F if attached, thus cleanly expelling moisture from the ground bait and achieving the required firmness of the ground bait. The ground bait can then be dispensed into the hand, without making a mess. The plunger may be operated by use of thumb and finger rings A, B (fig 6). The dispenser may be fully detachable for easy cleaning (fig 4) and may be florescent.

Description

2338161 THE GROUNDBAIT DISPENSER This invention is a tool designed to
compact and squeeze the moisture from a groundbait mixture.
It is well known that the conventional method of handling and distributing groundbait by hand is messy, leaving ground bait on the hands which in turn contaminates the fishing equipment being used. This results in time lost to the angler due to the need to wash hands and equipment. These difficulties are indicated in figures 1, 2 and 3.
This invention is quick and easy to use; the ground bait is dispensed onto the hand in a form that can be immediately distributed leaving no contamination on the hands thus saving valuable time. The invention also ensures that the waste of groundbait through contamination of the hands and equipment is greatly reduced. A fisherman would distribute ground bait quite frequently through the period of fishing and so the time saved could be significant. All parts are easily cleaned.
Traditionally the groundbait is mixed in a bucket, bowl or bait box, the fishermen would then place a portion of their groundbait mixture onto their hands, pat, roll and squeeze the mixture into a ball of suitable consistency is achieved as shown in Fig 1.
The individual pieces of the invention, "The Groundbait Dispenser" are shown infigure 4 and are listed as follows:
A B c D E Thumb Grip Finger Grip Top Connection Rod Cylindrical Tube Plunger Base Plate The assembly and use of the Groundbait Dispenser are shown in figures 5, 6 and 7. The Thumb Grip (A) is attached to the Connection Rod (C) and passed through a hole in the Finger Grip Top (B). The Plunger (E) is the secured to the other end of the Connection Rod (C). The Plunger (E) is the inserted into the Cylinderical Tube (D) and the Cylinderical Tube (D) is then secured to the underside of the Finger Grip Top (B).
The groundbait is mixed for day's fishing in the usual way and the Groundbait Dispenser used as follows:
The assembled dispenser is gripped by putting the fingers into the holes in the Finger Grip Top (B) and the thumb into the hole in the Thunb Grip (A), Press assembled Groundbait Dispenser into the groundbait so that groundbait collects in the Cylinderical Tube (D). This action causes the Plunger (E) to move up the Cylinderical Tube (D) Press Thumb Grip (A) down until the groundbait is compressed to the desired firmness, 1 4 Twist and pull the Groundbait Dispenser from the groundbait mixture.
Press Thumb Grip (A) down to deposit the groundbait mixture into the other hand.
6 If the quantity of groundbait in the container is such that it is not possible to compress the groundbait held in the Groundbait Dispenser then the Base Plate (F) is attached to the Groundbait Dispenser and the Thumb Grip (A) pushed down until the desired consitancy is obtained. Step 5 is then carried out, 7 Distribute the groundbait as desired.

Claims (12)

  1. CLAIMS -- 1 The Groundbait Dispenser is a tool for fishermen/women, to
compact and squeeze moisture from the groundbait mixture. The groundbait mixture is forced out of the Groundbait Dispenser as a neat compact parcel ready for distribution and thus eliminates the problems arising from messy hands. All parts are easily cleaned.
  2. 2 The Groundbait Dispenser saves time which would normally be lost washing and drying hands. This time loss could have resulted in lost fish bites.
  3. 3 The Groundbait Dispenser would save time in cleaning equipment after a day's fishing.
  4. 4 The Groundbait Dispenser is quick and easy to use for the novice or professional fisherman/woman.
  5. The Groundbait Dispenser is ideal for canals, ponds, lakes, rivers and streams. It can be used for shallow or deep waters. It can make groundbait suitable for bottom fishing (press firmly on top of plunger whilst submerged in groundbait mixture). It can make groundbail suitable for mid-fishing (do not press so firmly on top of plunger whilst submerged in mixture).
  6. 6 The Groundbait Dispenser has a cylindrical tube in order to gauge how small or large you wish to make groundbait parcel.
  7. 7 The Groundbait Dispenser is made of lightweight material and so can be carried easily in tackle box.
  8. 8 The Groundbait Dispenser can be made in fluorescent colours for easy location in tackle box at night or in low light conditions.
  9. 9 The Groundbait Dispenser can be made detachable for easy cleaning.
  10. The Groundbait Dispenser comes with an optional base which is used when necessary to further compact the parcel of groundbait.
  11. 11 The Groundbait Dispenser can be used by left or right handed fishermen/women.
  12. 12. A method of preparing groundbait substantially as hereinbefore described.
12 The Groundbait Dispenser can be made in different sizes.
Amendments to the claims have been filed as follows 1. A dispenser for groundbait, said dispenser comprising a cylindrical tube of uniform cross section, a plunger moveable within said tube and a removeable baseplate which is adapted to seal an end of the tube opposed to said plunger so as to allow compression of groundbait within the tube.
    2. A dispenser according to claim 1 wherein a rod of the plunger passes through a removable lid for the tube.
    3. A dispenser according to claim 3 wherein the lid fizffier comprises finger grip portions.
    4. A dispenser according to any one of the preceding claims wherein the rod of the plunger is provided with a thumb grip to assist in pressing the plunger through the tube.
    5. A dispenser according to any one of the preceding claims which is in a fluorescent colour.
    6. A dispenser according to any one of the preceding claims wherein all parts are detachable for cleaning.
    7. A method of preparing groundbait for fishing, said method comprising placing uncompressed groundbait into a dispenser according to any one of claims 1 to 6 with the baseplate in position, compacting the bait in the tube using the plunger, removing baseplate and expelling compacted groundbait from the tube by pressing the plunger.
    8. A method of preparing groundbait for fishing, said method comprising removing the baseplate from a dispenser according to any one of claims 1 to 6, Lk pressing the tube of the dispenser into a container of groundbait so that the open end of the tube is embedded into the mixture, compacting the bait in the tube using the plunger, removing the tube from the groundbait and expelling compacted groundbait from the tube by pressing the plunger.
    9. A method according to claim 7 or claim 8 for preparing groundbait suitable for bottom fishing, wherein said plunger is applied as firmly.
    10. A method according to claim 7 or claim 8 for preparing groundbait suitable for mid-fishing wherein only moderate pressure is applied to the plunger.
A dispenser for groundbait substantially as hereinbefore described with reference to the Figures 4 to 6 of the accompanying drawings.
