Abstract

A Dishwasher Cutlery Safety Guard which is assembled by inserting the four Legs 1 into the four recesses in the Top 2. The assembled guard is then placed over the cutlery with the legs firmly inside the cutlery compartment. The four Legs 1 may be shortened if necessary to suit certain makes of Dishwasher and may be detached for storage, transport and display purposes. The cutlery can then be positioned so as the sharp points are inside the lip of the Top 2. After the washing cycle the guard is easily removed and can be unassembled, stored and cleaned if required.

2335350 DISHWASHER CUTLERY SAFETY GUARD This invention relates to

dishwasher cutlery compartment safety guard.

Dishwashers have a removable compartment where items of cutlery are placed during the washing process including sharp utensils such as knives, forks and skewers.

At present the cutlery is uncovered and in some cases some manufacturers recommend that knives be placed with the blades upright therefore leaving the sharp point dangerously upwards and thus producing a potentially lethal hazard.

In fact at this date it is known that there has been one fatal accident to a 14 year old boy in the south of England.

This invention is to provide a Safety Cover to fit into the cutlery compartment of most domestic dishwashers and therefore reducing the potential of serious or even fatal injury by a person falling onto the sharp items of cutlery whilst the dishwasher door is open but still allows thorough washing during the process.

Extensive research has been carried out to design a guard which fits a large number of dishwashers presently existing.

The guard is preferably made from a plastic which withstands the temperature of the water and does not react adversely to the cleaning elements and be of sufficient strength c to help protect a person if they fall onto the cutlery area of the dishwasher.

   A dishwasher cutlery guard is claimed in Claim 1 wherein the four detachable Legs 1 may be shortened where it deemed necessary.

   A dishwasher cutlery safety guard as claimed in Claim 1 or 2 wherein the four adjustable Legs 1 may be detached for storage, transport and display purposes.

4. 4. A dishwasher cutlery safety guard as claimed in Claim 1 wherein the Top 2 has a series of holes which allows the water to pass through during the washing process.

   A dishwasher cutlery safety guard as claimed in Claim 1 and 4 wherein the Top 2 has a lip around the under edge where the sharp points of utensils are placed so they do not pertrude outside of the cutlery compartment.

   A dishwasher cutlery safety guard substantially as described herein with reference to the accompanying drawings 1 to 4.
