Abstract
233,066. Jardine, Sir E., and Cohen, I. Feb. 9, 1924. Securing together machine elements for the transmission of rotary motion; clutches, friction. -In motor-cycles and the like, a sprocket wheel ring B, preferably that on the main shaft of the variable-speed gear, is connected to its hub A by an indiarubber ring D notched to engage corresponding projections B<1>, A<1> on the ring and hub. The parts are supported by side plates G, G<1> secured together by rivets H, engaging between projections A, and rivets J engaging with lost motion the ring B, from which they are radially spaced. This arrangement permits relative rotary and radial displacement of the parts A, B and provides driving-means if the ring D should fail. The hub A is shown connected to the shaft L by a plate clutch in which plates N sliding on a sleeve 0 on the shaft L engage cork inserts in plates M in a drum K integral with the side plate G.
