Abstract

232,818. Dicker, S. G. S., (Hutchinson, M.). June 24, 1924. Planing; mortising.-In a combination woodworking machine adapted for sawing, band sawing, mortising, moulding, boring, mitering, jointing and smoothing, a motor 22 is brought into position for driving the different tools by adjusting its supporting carriage 18 vertically upon a vertical post 8, the lower end of which rotates in a collar 4 which is clamped by means of a hand wheel 7. The upper part of the post can be tilted by means of worm gearing 31, and the carriage is vertically adjustable by means of a screw 10. The carriage also supports a cross-cut saw 25 and can be manipulated by means of a handle 29. A rip saw 37 mounted below the main table 3 is raised when required by means of links 42 and a nut 43 on a hand-operated screw 45. The belt 27 when set to drive the rip-saw pulley 47 also drives the jointer pulley 52. An abrading belt 56 at one side of the table 3 is driven by connecting the motor pulley 28 with a pulley (not shown) on a countershaft 60. The band saw 92, boring tool 75, and moulding spindle 70 are driven from a countershaft 63, connected with the motor pulley by means of a pulley 64. The moulding spindle 70 is raised and lowered by means of a hand lever 73. The band-saw pillar 94 and table 96 are removable, fitting into sockets 95, 98; the pillar and the support 97 for the table may be hinged, as shown at 100, 99 respectively, for turning these parts down. For co-operating with the boring tool 75 a sliding work table 76 is provided moved by a foot lever 82 and returned by springs. A mortising chisel may replace the boring tool.
