Abstract
A cigarette filter perforator has two sets of teeth 4 positioned onto two shaped plates 1 and 2 that are joined at one end thereby creating a spring mechanism so that when sufficient external pressure is applied to the plates 1 and 2 the teeth 4 pierce the filter of a cigarette. The depth of the perforation is determined by a motion restrictor 3. When the external pressure is removed, the plates 1 and 2 return to their state of rest.
Description
CIGARETTE FILTER PERFORATOR
This invention relates to a cigarette filter perforator of the type that includes two sets of teeth separated by a spring mechanism and which may be stored anywhere convenient.
Smokers wishing to reduce their intake of chemicals from cigarettes have to give up completely, reduce the number of cigarettes smoked or change to a lower tar brand. By quitting or reducing the number of cigarettes smoked, both everyday and social routines have to be altered significantly.
An object of this invention is to reduce the amount of smoke passing through the filter and into the lungs.
Accordingly, this invention provides a cigarette filter perforator comprising two sets of teeth separated by means of a spring mechanism and a motion restrictor to limit the distance between the two sets of teeth.
Preferably the entire mechanism would be made of a flexible metal, but could also be made of plastic. Ideally it would also be covered with a rubber sleeve for extra grip and safety when in use.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawing in which:
Figure 1 shows the side view of the perforator in its state of rest.
Figure 2 shows the arrangement of the teeth.
Figure 3 shows how the two separate plates would be cut and where
folds would be made.
Figure 4 shows the shape of the rubber cover and the hole into
which the end of the cigarette would be placed.
Referring to the drawing the perforator comprises a top plate 1 and a bottom plate 2 connected permanently at one end, for example, by welding. The two plates 1 & 2 are shaped to allow the other ends to flex towards one another. At this end of each plate 1 & 2 is an arrangement of teeth 4.
In order to perforate the cigarette filter it is placed between the two sets of teeth 4 and is pushed into the perforator until it rests against the motion restrictor 3. Pressure is applied to the top plate 1 and the bottom plate 2 so as to push them together. Motion is halted when the top plate 1 makes contact with the motion restrictor 3.
The pressure is then removed and the teeth 4 separate. The cigarette can then be removed.
The rubber cover as illustrated in Fig 4 is placed or moulded around the perforator so as to reduce the exposure of sharp edges.
Claims (4)
1 A cigarette filter perforator comprising two sets of teeth separated by means of a spring mechanism and a motion restrictor to limit the distance between the two sets of teeth.
2 A cigarette filter perforator as claimed in Claim one wherein the motion restrictor also limits the depth to which the filter can be inserted.
3 A cigarette filter perforator as claimed in Claim 1 or Claim 2, wherein the cigarette filter perforator is protected in a rubber casing.
4 A cigarette filter perforator substantially as described herein with reference to figures 1-4 of the accompanying drawing.
