Abstract

232,470. Sutton, H. M., Steele, W. L., and Steele, E. G. July 28, 1924. Separating by shaking-apparatus; pneumatic separating.-Relates to means for regulating the air supply to separating machines of the kind described in Specifications 207,094 and 233,940 and consists in the provision under the pervious deck 2 of a baffle plate 6 provided with holes formed by punching tongues 7 out of a metal plate. The tongues are disposed so that the streams of air issuing from the holes are inclined in a direction opposite to the forward thrust of the deck, and the metal of the baffle plate is preferably thin galvanized iron so that the tongues 7 can be distorted in different ways to suit the requirements of different parts of the deck. The holes are arranged in rows transverselv of the direction of reciprocation and the holes in adjacent rows are staggered. Preferably the baffle plate is formed to allow unobstructed passage to the air at the feed end c and delivery side d of the deck. A second baffle plate 6<1> with the tongues inclined in the direction of thrust of the deck may be disposed over the inlet to the air chamber 3. The deck is preferably formed of sheet metal with large perforations so that the directions of the air passing therethrough is in the direction imposed by the baffle plate.
