Abstract
An electronic liquid crystal display watch has a casing 10 and spring biassed releasable lid 11. The watch includes a melody chip that plays automatically when the lid 11 is opened. The casing 10 is integrally moulded with a slot 17 behind a bracket 18 and with a loop 20. The slot 17 is arranged to receive a watch strap and the loop arranged to receive a necklace string so that the watch can be worn as a wrist watch or a necklace.
Description
WATCH
The invention relates to watches.
The invention relates more particularly to electronic watches that have a liftable lid arranged to cover the watch face. Such watches are already known and may incorporate noise generators which may comprise melody chips. Hitherto such watches have been arranged to fit to the wrist by a suitable strap.
It is an object of the invention to provide a watch which is more versatile than presently known watches.
According to the invention there is provided an electronic watch having a moulded case integrally formed with a bracket that is arranged to slidingly receive a watch strap or a necklace string so that the watch can be selectively worn as a wrist watch or a necklace.
The electronic watch preferably has a liquid crystal analogue display.
vne electronic watch may have a spring biassed hinged lid cv2ring the face of the watch that is held closed by a aall --leasable catch.
The electronic watch may include a melody chip that is controllable ON and OFF by operation of an exposed button. A separate switch is preferably provided to initiate the melody chip when the lid is opened.
An electronic liquid crystal display watch according to the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings in which
Figure 1 is a front plan view of the watch with its lid closed;
Figure 2 is a plan view of the watch with its lid open;
Figure 3 is a rear view of a casing of the watch; and
Figure 4 is a side view of the casing.
Referring to the drawings, the watch casing 10 has a hinged lid 11 formed a face of a novelty or cartoon cat.
The lid 11 is biassed open by a spring 12 that is partly coiled around a hinge pin 13. The lid has a finger 14 that engages with a releasable catch 15 in the casing 10 nold the lid closed. A spring loaded button 16 is provided to move the catch 15 to release the finger 14 as required The rear of the casing is lntegrally formed ith a slce 17 formed under a bracket 18 to slidingly receive a watch strap 19. An integrally formed loop 20 is also provided to receive a necklace string. This enables the watch can be worn as a wrist watch or as a necklace. The casing incorporates a watch drive circuit, a battery and a melody chip (not shown) and a separate button 21 is provided to turn the melody chip ON and OFF. The melody chip is also automatically initiated by the opening of the lid 11 and for example, provided the button has turned the chip ON before the lid is opened, a melody will commence whenever the lid opens. A delay circuit may be included however so that the melody commences some short time after the lid opens.
The described watch can thus not only be worn as a wrist watch or a necklace but the melody chip (which may also be a voice message chip) is separately controlled by the button 16 to play or not when the lid 11 opens. Once the lid is open the button 16 can be used to turn the melody
ON and OFF at will. The form or shape of the casing and especially the lid 11 can provide many different novelty or "fun" appearances and is preferably highly decorative so as to become part of a person's adornment while rtaining its function as a watch.
re integrally formed bracket 18 and loop 20 may take ran ,~orms and in some situations forming as wholly or trtLv th a.- bracket, which the necklace string is threaded through. In other words, the whole or part of the same "bracket" is used for attaching the necklace string. An important aspect is that in all cases either a watch strap or a necklace string can be fitted to the casing 10 to support the watch either against the wrist or from the neck.
