Abstract

Spectacles 5 are held in a wallet 1 which is hung around the neck by means of a chain 4. The chain 4 is secured to the wallet 1 by split rings 3 threaded through holes 2 punched at the top of the wallet.

Description

HOLDER FOR SPECTACLES 1. This invention relates to a holder for carrying a pair of spectacles.
2. People who either use two pairs of spectacles. or wear one pair frequently have to carry them in a handbag or pocket either in a case or wallet; in their hands: or on a chain or cord around their necks. Optometrists do not recommend spectacles be carried on chains or cords around the neck, especially those with glass lense.
So far as the inventor is concerned wearing bifocal spectacles caused difficulty at work particularly when it was necessary to refer to other papers whilst preparing another document. Reading glasses overcame the problem: but an alternative method of keeping both pairs easily available away from the work station was necessary.
An experiment using cords fixed to the side pieces of both pairs was not successful - the cords twisted around each other. In addition, spectacles hanging in this way is not recommended by Optometrists.
A leather wallet was purchased from an Optometrist and using a hole punch two small holes were made in the back of the opening.
Split rings [12mm dia] were then threaded into each hole. and a bead chain [770mm length] was passed through both split rings and clipped into its fastening. The chain is the type used to hold identity cards around peoples necks.
This worn around the neck with the second pair of spectacles in it.
One of the side pieces of the spectacles remaining outside the wallet aids easy access.
The invention combines the safety aspect of using a spectacle case or wallet with the convenience of a chain or cord.
3. Assembling the invention will now be described with reference attached drawing: 1 Spectacle wallet 2 Small holes 3 12mm dia split rings threaded through the holes 4 770mm bead chain threaded through the split rings 5 Dotted outline of spectacles inside the wallet 4. It is worn around the neck.
