Abstract

A mattress assembly (30), comprising: substantially nonporous bottom (42) and side (41) walls forming a mattress foundation (40); a mattress inner core (50) disposed in the mattress foundation (40) being permeable to air; nonporous top cover (60) covering the mattress inner core (50), the nonporous top cover (60) having apertures (61) at predetermined locations to allow the flow of air therethrough; and a fan (49) disposed with the mattress assembly (30) for forcing air into the mattress inner core (50) whereby the air is forced out the top cover (60) so as to reduce the accumulation of carbon dioxide in bedding on the top cover (60) of the mattress (30).
