Abstract
A clothes peg comprises two members 11,12 biased together by a leaf spring 14, member 11 having an extension 11a with a tapered slot 17 for receiving the hook 18 of a clothes hanger. Alternatively, a slot (25, Fig 3) can be provided in the legs (22) of a wooden peg, or a tab (35, Fig 4) with an aperture (36) can be provided attached to a plastic clamp (30) with jaws (31,32) and a joining strap (33). The hook 18 of the clothes hanger being accommodated in the slot (25) or aperture (36) respectively.
Description
Hang dry Pens.
This invention relates to a hang dry peg, for use in drying clothing.
At present clothing is dried outdoors simply using a washing line and clothes pegs to secure the wet clothing on the line. It has been found however that clothes pegs mark the clothing, and cause it to fall out of shape, as well as taking up a great deal of washing line space, as well as requiring a great deal of ironing of the clothing once dry to eliminate wrinkles and unwanted creases.
An object of the invention is to overcome these problems, and accordingly the invention provides a peg member having means for engaging with a clothes line, and means defining a detent for engagement by a hook of a clothes hanger.
The peg member may comprise a push-fit wooden peg with upwardly slopping notches formed in the legs of the peg to receive a clothes hanger hook.
The peg member may comprise gripper means for engaging the clothes line, and may also have resilient means loading the gripper means to grip the line, or clamp means to clamp the gripper means about the line.
The detent may compare a tapered slot provided in a tail part of the peg member, or a simple aperture in a tag attached to the gripper means.
Some embodiments of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings wherein
Figure 1 is a sectional view of a first embodiment of peg member according to the invention;
Figure 2 is a view of the peg member of figure 1 from the direction of arrow II in figure 1;
Figure 3 is a side view of another embodiment of peg member according to the invention, and
Figure 4 is a sectional view of a third embodiment of peg member according to the invention.
The first embodiment of peg member according to the invention comprises of two lever members, 11 , 12, which are connected by a resilient strip 13, and are biased together, with the lower end of member 12 abutting member 11, by a leaf spring part 14 formed integrally with or attached to member 11, and having a free end 15 bearing on the top of member 12. By this means, a washing line 16 is gripped between the members 11, 12.
Member 11 has an extension lla in which is formed a tapered slot 17, which can receive the hook 18 of a clothes hanger (not shown). The taper enables the slot 17 to receive hooks or various diameters.
Figure 3 illustrates the invention as applied to a normal wooden clothes peg 20. The peg has a top 21 and legs 22 which grip a washing line 23 adjacent the junction of the legs 22 to the top 21 (dashed line 24). A slot 25 is formed in each leg 22, of the peg sloping down from an open end, to receive and retain a hook of a clothes hanger (not shown).
Figure 4 shows a further alternative embodiment , wherein a plastics clamp member 30 has opposing jaw surfaces, 31 , 32, and a joining strap 33 which is attached to the top ofjaw 31, and engages e.g. by means of a hole in the strap receiving a stud on the jaw 32 (not shown) so that the clamps can be closed about a washing line 34. A tab 35 is attached to the clamp member 30, with an aperture 36 there through to receive the hook of a clothes hanger (not shown).
Further embodiments are possible within the scope of the invention, and the scope of
the appended claims. Materials used may include wood, (particularly for a modified traditional peg), plastic or metal.
Claims (6)
1. A peg member having means for engaging with a clothes line, and means defining a detent for engagement by hook of a clothes hanger.
2. A peg member according to claim 1, comprises gripper means for engaging the clothes line, and resilient means loading the gripper means to grip the line.
3. A peg member according to claim 1, comprising gripper means for engaging the clothes line and clamp means to clamp the gripper means about the line.
4. A peg member according to claim 2, wherein the detant comprises a tapered slot in a tail part of the peg member.
5. A peg member according to claim 3, wherein the detant means comprises an aperture in a tag attached to the clamp means.
6. A peg member according to claim 1 comprising a push - fit wooden peg upwardly sloping notches in the legs of the peg to receive a clothes hanger hook.
