Abstract

A golf stance practice aid comprises a base plate 1 with scale 2, foot positioning means 4,5 and an extendable ball positioning means 7,8 rotatable through a complete turn to allow for right and left hand use.

Description

GOLF PRACTICE AID This invention relates to a golf stance alignment and ball positioning practice aid Many golfers when they take up their stance in relation to the ball and considering the direction,shape and flight of the intended shot, have difficulty in consistently setting themselves for the shot with the ball and their feet in the appropriate or desired positions.

This invention provides for the golfer,when practising,to establish both the alignment ofthe feet in relation to the intended direction ofthe shot and the precise position of the ball in relation to the feet.This by means of a calibrated directional pointer along which slide both a foot position recorder and an extendable measure of ball position.

By means of a rotatable ball position marker the aid converts for use by left handed players and for those wishing to use a closed or an open stance.

A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawing

Referring to the drawing the aid comprises a long base plate 1. marked with a scale 2.

Having taken up the golf stance relative to the ball 9. the golfer places the aid on the ground in front of him with his front foot aligned to the fixed mark 4. while the slide mounted rear foot marker 5. is moved to record the position of the tip of the rear foot.The position of the ball is recorded by sliding the rotatable marker 7. along the base plate and extending the measure 8. to a point where it just touches the ball.

By observing the recorded position of the ball along the calibrated base plate the golfer is able to work out precisely how far forward or back in the stance the ball is positioned.ie the position relative to the front and rear feet 6.(by the relative distances marked 'a' and 'b') The distance of the ball at 90 degrees (or the pre-set angle)from a line between the tips of the feet (distance 'c') is measured on the extending measure 8.

The directional alignment of the feet is checked by looking along the base plate 1. in the direction of the arrow 3.

In the case of the player being left handed or wishing to adopt an open or closed stance the measure 8. is rotated on its base 7. through 180 degrees or to the desired position.

The guideline 10. enables accurate alignment of the rotatable measure at 90 degrees to the base plate 1.

The aid can be used to correctly position the ball and feet prior to the shot or to check the position of the ball and feet after having taken up the stance without the aid being in place.

Claims

1 .A golf stance alignment and ball positioning aid enabling the golfer to establish the precise position of the feet relative to the ball and to the desired direction of the shot.

2.A golf stance alignment and ball positioning aid as claimed in claim 1. wherein a movable slide moving along a scale is used to record the position of the rear foot relative to both the front foot and the ball.

3.A golf stance alignment and ball positioning aid as in claim 1 or claim 2 wherein a movable slide with an extendable arm records the position of the golf ball on a scale between the front and rear feet.

4.A golf stance alignment and ball positioning aid as in claim 3 wherein the slide mounted extendable measure shows on a scale the distance of the ball along an imaginary line at 90 degrees to an imaginary line between the tips of the golfers feet.

5.A golf stance alignment and ball positioning aid as in claims 3 or 4. wherein the ball position marker and measure can be rotated through 180 degrees to provide for left handed players or through any other angle to provide for the player wishing to adopt an open or a closed stance.

6.A golf stance alignment and ball positioning aid as in claim 1. wherein the alignment of the feet relative to the intended direction of the shot can be observed using the long base plate and markings to visually assess said alignment.
