Abstract
A plant protection device in the form of a clear flexible tube 3 acts as a cloche. The protection device is collapsible for easy storage. The top of the flexible tube 3 may be open or closed. A closed tube may be shaped to capture rainfall and direct it to the plants through a hole in the closure. The tube 3 may be held circular by rings 4 attached to a supporting frame 2.
Description
PLANT PROTECTION SYSTEM
This invention relates to a new plant protection system.
Protection systems to plants and fruit are normally of a rigid nature i.e. greenhouses or cloches which occupy a lot of ground area and can be expensive to buy, enclosing a large quantity of plants at any one time.
According to the present invention there is provided an individual plant protection system comprising of a flexible tube , made of clear polythene, plastic or similar : of varying diameter's and length's to suit each range of plant's, or fruits. The tube is held circular by means of attached flexible reinforcing rings and can be attached to various support systems by clips or brackets at the top, and embedded into the ground at the base, while the open ended type can be secured by clips or wires, to either branches or support canes . Thus giving protection to plants and fruit from, insects, wildlife and severe climatic changes. whilst at the same time allowing watering and feeding to take place around the plant.
A major advantage of this system is collapsibility, lou maintenance and storage , at low cost.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings ( 1 to 5 ) in which :
Figure 1 Shows the tube suspended from an angle type frame ( 2 ) by brackets ( 1 ) with ( 3 )being the tube and ( 4 ) the flexible reinforcing rings .
Figure 2 Shows a row of tubes supported on a string or wire ( 5 ) attached to supports at the end of the row.
Figure 3 Shows a doorway type frame ( 6 ) which provides an internal support to the tube ( 3 ) .
Figure 4 Shows the open sided tube with self sealing edges ( 7 ) either of adhesive or the poppet type, for plants which grow up canes or for tying to branches for protecting fruit.
Figure 5 Shows two different types of top sections of the tube, self watering which will capture rainfall and direct it to the plant through the small hole at ( 8 ) and the standard flat type.
Claims (7)
1. An individual plant and fruit protecting device which is re- usable and collapsible for easy storage with low maintenance costs.
2. A device to protect plants and fruit from airborne insects and birds as in claim 1
3. A device to protect plants and fruit from crawling insects as claimed in 1 and 2 .
4. A device to protect plants and fruit from extremes of temperature as claimed in 1 2 . and 3.
5. A device which enables plants and fruit to be watered and fed as claimed in 1. 2. 3. and 4.
6. A device which offers a range of support svstems as claimed in 1 ,2 3 4. and 5.
7. A device which can incorporate a natural watering s stem as claimed in 1 2. 3. 4, 5 and 6.
