Abstract

A signalling device 22 for inserting fuel into a fuel tank of a motor vehicle 10 is provided for informing about the required type of fuel. An optical signalling element 24 is provided at the motor vehicle 10 signalling the type of fuel to be used. The signal can be acoustically supported by a loud speaker 28. The optical element 24 may be an intermittent signal or a flashing lamp. It may comprise LED elements and may be triggered by a switch on opening of a fuel tank filler lid 18.

Description

Optical fuel display for vehicles 10 Technical Field
The invention relates to a signalling device for inserting fuel into a fuel tank of a motor vehicle for informing about the required kind of fuel.
15 Prior Art
Very often it happens, that the wrong kind of fuel is accidently or due to ignorance used when the fuel tank of a motor vehicle is filled. For example diesel fuel is filled into the fuel tank of the motor vehicle instead of petrol.
The British GB 2 366 776 A deals with this problem. In this document an acoustical spoken notice is recorded. When the lid of the fuel tank is opened the words of a speaker can be acoustically heard, telling which Intel has to be used now.
25 The disadvantage of this acoustical recording is, that a foreigner not knowing the language of the spoken words still does not know which kind of fuel has to be used for the motor vehicle. A comparison with notices written on the petrol pump is normally also not possible. Furthermore the noise at, for example, petrol stations along the motor highway makes it difficult to understand the automatized voice.
Disclosure of the invention
It is an object of the invention to provide a signalling device removing the disadvantages of the aforementioned prior art.
According to the invention this object is achieved in that for a signalling device for 5 inserting fuel into a fuel tank of a motor vehicle of the above mentioned kind an optical signalling element is provided at the vehicle signalling the kind of fuel.
Further modifications of the invention are subject matter of the subclaims. An embodiment of the invention is described in greater detail hereinbelow with reference to 10 the accompanying drawings.
Brief description of the drawing
Fig.1 is a scotch of a section of a motor vehicle with a signalling device according 15 to the invention.
Description of a preferred embodiment
In Fig. 1 numeral 10 denotes a motor vehicle, only a side section of which can be seen in 20 this drawing. A filler neck 12 for filling fuel into the fuel tank of the motor vehicle 10 is provided next to the door 14 at an intermediate bar 16. The fuel tank cannot be seen in this drawing.
The filler neck 12 is closed by a tank lid 18. A sensor 20 is provided at the tank lid 18 25 detecting the state,,open" and,,closed" of the tank lid 18.
When the tank lid 18 is opened and the filler neck 12 of the motor vehicle 10 is released for filling in the fuel, an optical signalling device 22 starts flashing. The optical signalling device of the described embodiment is an LED-display 24. Non-moving words 30 or a moving light writing 26 can be displayed on the LED display 24. The words 25 contains a notice which fuel, for example,,diesel fuel" has to be used with this motor vehicle 10. To attract attention of the person filling in the fuel to these words 26, an
additional acoustic whistling sound is generated. The sound is generated by a loud speaker 28.
