Abstract

Bandwidth allocation is used when providing unicast and multicast content to users. Content subject to an a-priori contractual arrangement with a content provider is given the highest priority. The next highest priority is given to unicast and remaining bandwidth is allocated to multicast. Multicast communities may be created or eliminated in response to an increase or decrease, respectively, in common user interests or requests.
