Abstract

A stand for converting a handheld electric circular saw into a chop saw, comprising a base 1 supported on frame support (5, fig 2). The base is provided with twin rails 4 connected to a metal carriage plate 2 to which the circular saw can be connected. The saw can travel along the rails to facilitate cutting. Guide fences 3 are provide to allow mitre cuts. The frame support, rails and guides can be dismantled and stored in the base.

PORTABLE SAW GUIDE
This invention relates to a guide for portable electric saws, which is made to be lightweight, compact and therefore portable and to include a frame support 5 Circular saws are used extensively in the construction industry, but are not used to their full potential. Many people use circular saws or own one, but in addition would like a chop saw for their specific abilities. They however do not always have enough continuous work to warrant the financial outlay for one.
This guide allows a standard circular saw to virtually carry out the same work as a chop saw and it is envisaged for a fraction of the cost. It allows crosscutting at any angle to be done more accurately, faster and safer than by conventional methods using freehand circular saws. Wider cuts than can be made by chop saws can be accommodated.
The base 1, will be constructed in sections and hinged to open up to hold all the external elements 1,2,3, & 5, making it truly compact.
Drawing I shows the plan.
Drawing 2 shows the rear elevation.
Drawing 3 shows the end elevation.
The circular saw will be clamped onto the metal carriage plate 2 which will travel on the tubular metal rails 4 by the use of internal bearing assemblies. The rails will be fitted into sockets in the plastic base 1, probably being a push fit only, to allow for easy assembly and dismantling The carriage plate 2 will be equipped to accept most forms and designs of saw using adjustable clamps, and the height of the rails 4 will be able to accommodate 7/" or 9/" blades, by the use of spacers between them and the base 1.
The fences 3 can be moved between zero and ninety degrees to permit most angles used in the industry, by locating in pre-drilled holes in the base 1 or in the rear plate 6.
The stand 5 will be constructed from tubular or box section metal, made to fold up, unclip or unscrew apart to allow it to be packed away in the base 1. It will be fitted into sockets on the underside of the base 1 body.
A mechanism to change a portion of the base 1 work surface to accommodate different levels required between 90 & 45 degree compound mitre cuts will be incorporated into the base 1 body.
