Abstract

A rain hood comprises an inflatable tubular frame 1,3,5,7,8 which is supported by the head, extends to below shoulder height and is secured by underarm straps and a covering material over the frame. A visor may be provided.

Description

Page I DESCRIPTION
The inflatalec rain hood has the following advantages over a standard umbrella when used at spectator events, it does not restrict the view of other spectators to the same extent, it is sate, as it cannot poke someone in the eye or face, it is not prone to structural damage by the wind.
It is very stable in moderate wind, and is hands free when walking, fishing, gol f or working. (Refer lo figure I) The top of the hood is formed by two inflatable rings that are welded together to form a ridged structure. The top ring (item I) has a central membrane (item 2) that different sizes of head would fit. The lower and larger diameter inflatable ring (item 3), gives the hood an extended brim. This brim (item 3) would then be able to support a large plastic visor (item 4) that acts as a forward canopy against the rain.
The Visor could, as a variant, extent below eye level if using a clear transparent plastic. The rain hood could also be made with no visor (item 4) or just one top inflatable ring (item I). The bib cross brace (item 5) is a circular inflatable tube that is mounted in the frame at an angle to form a support for the frontal bib of covering material. the side struts (item 6) and rear strut (item 7) support the brim (item 3) and form the frame into a parasol type shape.
The outer bottom rim inflatable tube (item 8) is mounted below shoulder height but still giving hands free operation. The two under straps (item 9) arc connected to the rear of the rim tube (item 8) and could be velcrolfastcned at the front to give adjustment. and also used to pack the rain hood when deflated. The material (item 11) covering; the frame could be transparent plastic or canvas type cloth and would extend past the lower edge of rim so that the rainwater could drain away. The frontal bib area would be fitted with a velcro fastener (item 12).
I he low-pressure air pump (item 10) is fitted with a pressure release valve.
