Abstract
An alarm system for warning a vehicle driver that he or she is falling asleep while driving includes an adjustably mounted infra-red transmitter and detector arrangement 2 for sensing downward movement of the driver's chin into the infra-red beam, resulting in the actuation of a siren 3. The adjustable part of the arrangement may be slidably mounted on the driver's seat belt 1.
Description
Description
This invention relates to safety Ed in particular to road vehicle safety. Falling asleep whilst driving or "nodding operas it is known can lead to death or serious injury so a system to prevent this is desirable. According to the present invention there is provided a wake-up-driver system comprising a siren and a means to detect a head position and a means to move the detection means and a means to provide power and a means for a radiated field area. A specific
embodiment of the invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: Figure 1 shows the invention with numbers pertaning to its parts: Figure 2 shows the radiation of a transmitted beam illustrated by dashes from a transmitter to an area shown as UC.
With a driver strapped into a vehicles safety belt harness No 1 part and with a slideably mounted transmitter part No 2 set at a level to cause the transmitted beam shown as dashed lines set to a users height I.E. the siren part No 3 not sounding. The operation will be as follows with the drivers head verticle novement monitored by the transmitted beam arty dip into the beam will cause the siren to sound as the position U.C. or under chin fig 2 will signal a nod-off condition. in this case as infra-red beam being entered.
