Abstract

The waterproof cover has reinforced corners (3) for mounting it to the arms of the line, and draw strings 8 attached to its inner edges for tensioning it, whereby water is caused to drain to the centre. The draw strings pass through holes 7 in the rotary boss of the line and have sliding spring-loaded buttons for adjusting the tension. The cover has side flaps (1) fastened at each corner with hook-and-loop material, and clips tied to eyelets (5) midway along each flap for attaching to the line in windy conditions. Closable vents (6) are also provided.

Description

Page 1 WET WEATP WASHING COVER FOR USE WITH A ROTARY WASHING
LINE This invention relates to a cover which will keep the majority of wet weather off the washing whilst drying on the rotary line.
At present when washed, garments are put on a rotary washing line to dry. There is no protection against the elements i.e. rain and snow.
Washing is not usually hung out to dry in wet weather and people are apprehensive about hanging out washing in changeable weather conditions.
According to the present inventions there is provided a lightweight waterproof detachable washing cover. The cover consists of a lightweight waterproof material which is manufactured into a suitable shape to fit new and existing rotary washing lines when in use.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of referencing the accompanying drawings in which: Referring to the drawings the wet weather cover comprises of a lightweight waterproof material which is manufactured into a suitable shape to sit 3 or 4 armed rotary washing lines.
The corners ofthe cover have reinforced sections (3), which locate the arms (10) of the rotary line. Fig. 1 shows a plan view of the manufacturing template which would allow the cover to be produced. Fig 2 shows a rotary line in the erected position with the cover fitted, creating an inverted top to allow for drainage.
For existing rotary lines, a small modification must be made to the rotating boss ( 1 1). This is a small matter of drilling three off small diameter holes in the boss positioned in the middle of each section of the line (7). For new rotary lines it would require the rotary line manufacturers to mould these holes in place at the time of manufacture. No modifications would then be necessary.
Once fitted to the rotary line, the cover needs to be placed under tension to aid drainage to the centre and prevent rain water from gathering. Tension can be placed on each inner section of the cover by sliding the sprung loaded buttons (9) up the draw cord (8) until the required tension is achieved. With the inner sections of the cover now under tension rain water drains to the centre of the line easily (Fig 2 and Fig 4). When the line rotates in the wind, the cover and the three draw cords rotate with it. Side flaps ( I) which hang down to prevent driving rain, are fastened by velcro ape (2) at each corner. Quick release clips (12) are also tied to the eyelets (5) of the flaps ( I). The clips are easily clipped on to the rotary line when in use.
This prevents the side flaps from being blown up on top of the cover in very windy conditions.
Velcro tape is also used to fasten inner vents (6).

Claims (4)

Page 2 CLAIMS
1 A wet weather washing cover to fit rotary washing lines comprising of a lightweight waterproof fitted sheet which can be easily removed when not in use.
2. A wet weather washing cover as claimed in claim 1, wherein reinforced Webb sections are sewn in each corner to locate the arms of the rotary washing line.
3. A wet weather washing cover as claimed in claim I or claim 2 wherein draw cords and sprung loaded buttons are fitted to the eyelets (4) of the inner sections of the cover. The cords are threaded through holes in the centre rotating boss of the rotary line, allowing the cover to be placed under tension to aid drainage to the centre and also allowing the line and cover to rotate freely.
4. A wet weather washing cover sustantially as described herein with reference to figures I -
of accompanying drawings.
