Abstract

A percussive hand tool comprising a hammer head or a conventional tool blade secured to a shaft which has a slot along its neutral axis to increase resilience. The slot may be filled with a resilient material. The striking face of the hammer is elongated to the rear over a portion of its circumference so that the hammer may strike nearer the Centre of Percussion to increase the power of the blow.

Description

Percussive Hand Tools This invention relates to bammers sledgehammers, axes and mattocks an
nther percussive hpnd tools.'Their use results in shock on the hands dz which is undesirable as it cuises fatigue and repetitive strain injury 'cOT'dLng to the present invention there is provided a hand tool hose striking face is rearvard elongated or a conventional blade, to which is secured a shaft percussion. The shaft has a slot on the neutral axis Hand hammers are used in a large variety. ru general they have a shaft about which up to 2 lb. and have a round st striking face of radius u-o to five eighths of an inch.
Hand hammers in accordance with this inventicn -ill include a rearward extension unicuely 12 " long will werigh three quarters of an inch pnd i.'ill imclude a slot on the neutral axis

The slot may be a single slot or a series of shorter slots or a group of narrower slots which slots may extend to any depth. The slot may be filled with a light resilient material to lorm a smooth exterior. Alternatively the shaft in fig 2 may comprise a core of resilient materiel reinforced on its edges or faces by sa stronger material such as hard plastic or carbon fibre to provide sufficient rigidity in use
