Abstract

A kitchen drainer unit for fitting inside a conventional kitchen cupboard comprises a cabinet 10 and one or more racks 14,16 mounted in the cabinet 10 for sliding forwardly out of the cabinet, the or each rack 14,16 being arranged to support newly-washed dishes and to permit such dishes to drain dry.

Kitchen Drainer Unit The present invention relates to a kitchen drainer unit in which newly-washed dishes may drain dry.

It is common to provide racks, in which newly-washed dishes may drain dry, next to the sink in a kitchen.

I have now devised a unit in which such dishes may drain out of view: a particular advantage of my unit is that it is arranged to be installed within a standard kitchen cupboard.

In accordance with the present invention, there is provided a kitchen drainer unit, comprising a cabinet or other structure having an open front without doors or other front closure means, and one or more racks mounted for sliding forwardly through the open front of the cabinet or other structure, the or each rack being arranged to support newlywashed dishes and to permit such dishes to drain dry.

This unit is arranged to be installed in a standard kitchen cupboard having its own door or doors, which when closed conceal the drainer unit and when open allow access to the sliding rack or racks of the unit.

Preferably the drainer unit comprises two or more racks spaced apart one-above-the-other.

Preferably the height of the or each rack is adjustable.

Preferably the drainer unit also comprises a drip tray, positioned adjacent the bottom of the unit.

Preferably the drainer unit comprises a cabinet having opposite side walls and top and bottom walls: preferably the unit also has a back wall.

An embodiment of the present invention will now be described by way of example only and with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which: FIGURE 1 is an isometric view of a kitchen drainer unit in accordance with the present invention; FIGURE 2 is a front view of the drainer unit shown in

Figure 1 ; and FIGURE 3 is a view similar to Figure 1, indicating the manner in which the individual racks may be slid out of the cabinet of the unit.

Referring to the drawings, there is shown a kitchen drainer unit which comprises a rectangular cabinet 10 having opposite side walls, top and bottom walls and a rear wall, and is entirely open at its front: thus there are no doors or other closure for the open front of the cabinet.

The opposite side walls are provided, on their inner surfaces, with runners 12 to support two rectangular racks 14, 16 and a rectangular tray 18. The positions of the runners 12 may be adjustable, for adjusting the heights of the racks 14.

Each of the racks 14,16 comprises opposite side walls and front and rear walls, and a series of rails 20 extending between its front and rear walls, to receive and support a number of dishes in generally upright orientation.

The tray 18 comprises a planar bottom wall and an upstanding peripheral wall, and is positioned adjacent the bottom of the unit, to collect water draining from the dishes carried in the racks 14,16 above it.

It will be noted from Figure 3 that each of the racks 14,16 may be pulled forwardly (and even removed altogether) to gain access for inserting dishes into the rack or removing them from the rack. Likewise, the tray 18 may be slid forwardly (And then removed altogether) for emptying.

The unit which has been described is intended to be installed within a standard kitchen cupboard, either a floormounted cupboard or a wall-mounted cupboard, having its own door or doors which may then be closed to conceal the drainer unit, or opened to gain access to the drainer unit.

Claims (10)

1. Claims 1. A kitchen drainer unit, comprising a cabinet or other structure having an open front without doors or other front closure means, and one or more racks mounted for sliding forwardly through the open front of the cabinet or other structure, the or each rack being arranged to support newlywashed dishes and to permit such dishes to drain dry.
2. 2. A kitchen drainer unit as claimed in claim 1, comprising two or more racks spaced apart one-above-the-other.
3. 3. A kitchen drainer unit as claimed in claims 1 or 2, in which the height of the or each rack is adjustable.
4. 4. A kitchen drainer unit as claimed in any preceding claim, in which the drainer unit further comprises a drip tray, positioned adjacent the bottom of the unit.
5. 5. A kitchen drainer unit as claimed in any preceding claim, comprising a cabinet having opposite side walls and top and bottom walls.
6. 6. A kitchen drainer unit as claimed in any preceding claim, comprising a back wall.
7. 7. A kitchen drainer unit as claimed in any preceding claim, adapted for mounting inside a cupboard.
8. 8. A kitchen drainer unit substantially as herein described with reference to the accompanying drawings.
9. 9. An drainer assembly comprising a cupboard and a drainer unit as claimed in any preceding claim mounted within the cupboard.
