Abstract

A door 1 has its exterior surface 4 formed of a metal plate, and an interior surface 5 of plywood to allow a decorative finish. There is a filling 7 of insulating material between the faces, contained by wooden battens 61, 63 around the edge of the door. The exterior part of the door frame 2 is also covered with metal 9. The external face may be extended to cover the sides of the door in various arrangements. The metal face provides improved resistance to break-in and requires less maintenance.

Description

IMPROVED CLOSURE
This invention relates to an improved closure of the type made up of a door mounted in a perimetral frame which surrounds the opening in the wall onto 5 which the closure is made.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
Exterior closures with door currently present a maintenance problem due 10 to the fact that their surfaces have to withstand not only the inclemencies of the weather but also all kinds of external aggressions.
This problem means that from time to time the outside surface of the door has to be retouched and repainted, with all the costs involved therein.
Moreover, the inner surface of the doors currently presents an aesthetic problem, as those surfaces are usually smooth and do not have a finish which matches the interior decoration.
20 These exterior closures are often subjected to acts of vandalism, the purpose of which is to achieve damage to the door or the frame by acting on the ends of the aforementioned metallic plates.
DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
The improved closure of the invention offers special constructional features directed at reducing the maintenance work to be carried out on the exterior surface of the door, while providing a closure with an internal decoration that matches the room it is mounted in, facilitating installation and ensuring greater strength and security of the 30 closure without neglecting its thermal and acoustic insulation properties.
The closure of this invention is of the type made up of a door mounted in a perimetral frame which surrounds the opening in the wall onto which the closure is made.
i In accordance with the invention, the door includes a metallic plate making up the exterior surface, plywood making up the interior surface with a decorative finish, and an interior filling of insulating material to break the heat bridge between the exterior 5 and the interior.
The metallic plate can be made of stainless steel, galvanised iron, aluminium or any other metal of similar characteristics.
10 The frame of the closure is made of wood with a metallic plate covering on the part facing to the exterior, thus lending said frame the same characteristics as described above for the door.
The lower batten of the door has a channel for the fitting of a draught 1 5 excluder.
The side batten of the door, opposite the opening axis, has a central channel to permit the lock fittings to be passed through it.
20 The metallic plate making up the exterior surface of the door is prolonged peripherally onto the edges of the door body, covering them totally or partially.
If said exterior plate partially covers the edges of the door body, three of its edges will be formed into a C-shape so that the end wing can slot into the respective 25 groove defined for the purpose on the side and lower battens of the door, while the fourth side will have an angled fold for attaching the metallic plate to the upper batten of the door.
if the plate on the exterior side of the door totally covers the edges of the 30 door body, then the aforementioned exterior plate will have side wings which terminate in an end portion, parallel to the exterior surface of the door and housed in an incus made for the purpose in the interior surface of the perimetral overlap.
The side wings of the metallic plate corresponding to the sides of the door
body provided with longitudinal incuts for passing the lock fittings through have in their intermediate zone some folds which define on said plate a C-shaped inward-facing configuration which is designed to be housed with a close fit inside the corresponding longitudinal incus.
Similarly, the metallic plate which covers the exterior of the fixed perimetral frame has on the end corresponding to the surface facing the edge of the door an L-
shaped arrangement which partially covers the groove of the frame and terminates on an end wing. This end wing is in tum fitted into a zone of the frame close to the interior 10 surface of the closure.
The end arrangements defined by the metallic plates to cover totally the facing surfaces of the frame and the edge of the door have the purpose of conferring greater strength on the closure as a whole and preventing access to the end of said 15 metallic plates with a jemmy or similar tool when the door is in the closed position.
DESCRIPTION OF THE FIGURES
20 In order to complement the description provided and to facilitate
understanding of the characteristics of the invention, this specification is
accompanied by a set of drawings which, with illustrative and nonrestrictive character, show the following: 25 - Figure 1 is an elevation view of the closure from the interior side, showing the frame and the door in closed position, with the exterior metallic plate covering part of the edges of the door body.
- Figure 2 is a profile view of the door of the preceding Figure sectioned 30 down a vertical plane.
- Figure 3 is a plan view of the door and the frame forming the closure, sectioned along a horizontal plane.
- Figure 4 is a plan view of a variant embodiment of the closure, sectioned along a horizontal plane, in which the plywood of the door has an overlap onto the frame.
5 - Figure 5 is a variant view of embodiment of the improved closure sectioned along a horizontal plane, in which the exterior metallic plate totally covers the edges of the door body.
PREFERRED EMBODIMENT OF THE INVENTION
As the figures show, the closure is made up of a door (1) mounted on a frame (2) onto which it closes. The frame (2) is in turn attached to the wall (3).
The door (1) includes a metallic plate (4) and sheet of plywood (5), mounted 15 on either side of a rectangle made up of some wooden battens (61, 62, 63 and 64) which define the perimeter of the door (1). The interior of the rectangle formed by the wooden battens (61, 62, 63, 64) is filled with an insulating material (7) to cause breakage of the heat bridge between the exterior and interior surfaces of the door.
20 The metallic plate (4) forms the exterior surface of the door (1). This exterior surface, which can be made of stainless steel, galvanised iron, aluminium, etc., means that exterior maintenance of the door is practically unnecessary.
In the examples of embodiment shown in Figures 2, 3 and 4, three of the 25 sides of the metallic plate (4) have a C-shaped arrangement (41), with the metallic plate (4) attached to the battens (61, 62, 63 and 64) of the door (1) perimeter by slotting them into the end wing of the C-shaped arrangement (41) in the respective grooves (8) defined for the purpose in the battens (61, 63 and 64). The fourth side of the metallic plate (4) has a right-angled fold (42) which partially covers the upper end of the door (1), 30 as shown in Figure 2.
The plywood (5) making up the surface of the door (1) corresponding to the interior side of closure can have a decorative finish to match the decoration of the surrounding zone.
The lower batten (64) of the door has been provided with a channel (641) for optional fitting of a draught excluder and, on the side batten (63), opposite the opening axis of the door, a central channel (631) so that the lock fittings can pass through.
The frame (2) has its wooden trim covered with metallic plate (9) on the exterior part.
Figure 4 shows a variant embodiment of the closure, in which the 10 plywood (5) forming the interior surface of the door (1) has an overlap (51) on the frame (2). With this embodiment the wood of the overlap (51) covers the surrounding channel (10) between the door (1) and the frame (2) , thereby achieving not only a better appearance but also the covering up of a channel (10) which could cause insulation problems. In the embodiment shown in Figure 5 the metallic plate (4) forming the exterior surface of the door (1) is prolonged peripherally on the edges of the latter to form side wings (43) which totally cover said edges. Furthermore, said side wings (43) terminate in an end portion (44) which is parallel to the exterior surface of the door (1) 20 and is housed in an incus (52) defined for the purpose in the interior surface of the perimetral overlap (51) of the plywood (5) forming the interior surface of the door (1) The side wing (43), corresponding to the edge of the door (1) provided with the longitudinal incus (631), has at its intermediate zone an inward-facing C-shaped 25 arrangement defined by means of some folds (45) and housed with a close fit inside the aforesaid longitudinal incus (631).
Furthermore, the metallic plate (91) which covers the fixed perimetral frame (2) to the exterior has on the end facing the edge of the door (1) an L-shaped 30 arrangement (92) which partially covers the groove of the frame (2) and which terminates in an end wing (93) which slots into a zone of the frame (2) close to the interior surface of the closure.
The nature of the invention having been described sufficiently, together
with a preferred example of embodiment, it is set on record for the appropriate purposes that the materials, shape, size and arrangement of the elements described may be modified, as long as this does not involve alteration of the essential characteristics of the invention which are claimed below.
