Abstract

A support system for banners comprises a rigid support strut 1, at least one end of which is releasably attached to a substantially perpendicular sprung bar 2. The sprung bar is connected at its ends to a banner 3 and provides tensioning for the banner. The other end of the support strut may be fixed to a base 4 which also holds the banner. Banners may be displayed simultaneously on both sides of the support strut by means of separate sprung bars (Fig. II). The curvature of the sprung bar is preferably in the same plane as the banner.

SUPPORT SYSTEM FOR BANNERS This invention relates to a support system for banners.
Support stands are commonly used to d'sp'ay graphic bsr. ; s Subsi. an'i. iaiiy in a vertical orientation.
There are two generic varieties of free standing banner stand commonly in use: The first of these comprises a rigid support pole from which the banner graphic is hung. The advantage of this is that it provides a thin system that can potentially be used double sided, however there is no permanent tension applied to the banner graphic and so it is difficult to prevent wrinkles forming. The second variety of stand addresses this problem by incorporating one or more essentially vertical sprung support poles which hold the banner graphic in tension between the base and the top of the sprung pole. This type of support stand has a number of disadvantages : The system requires a greater amount of space behind the banner graphic and cannot be used double sided. This type of tensioned system is more difficult to assemble than the first variety and also because the length and orientation of the sprung rods could cause a safety hazard if released suddenly. Additionally this system cannot be used wall mounted.
According to the present invention there is provided means of tensioning a banner graphic whilst utilising a rigid strut to support the top of the banner thus combining the advantages of both the aforementioned designs.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawing in which :- Figure 1 shows a perspective view of a single sided free standing banner stand.
Figure 11 shows a side view of a double sided free standing banner stand.
Figure 111 shows a front view of a single sided free standing banner stand.
Figure 1V shows a perspective view of a wall mounted banner stand in vertical orientation.
Figure V shows a perspective view of a wall mounted banner stand in horizontal orientation.

One end of the banner graphic 3 and the bottom of the support poie 1 are releasab'y f : xed to a base 4 h order to assemble the banner stand the support pole 1 is attached perpendicular to the base 4, the sprung bar 2 is attached perpendicular to one end of the rigid pole 1. One end of the banner graphic 3 is attached to the base 4 and the other end is attached to the sprung bar 2 which holds the banner in tension.

Claims (7)

  1. SUPPORT SYSTEM FOR BANNERS CLAIMS 1. A support system for banners comprising a rigid support strut at least one end of which is releasably attached to a substantially perpendicular sprung bar which in turn is releasably connected at its ends to a banner. The sprung bar providing means for tensioning the banner.
  2. 2. A support system for banners as claimed in claim 1 whereby one end of the banner and the bottom of the support strut are releasably fixed to a base.
  3. 3. A support system for banners as claimed in claim 1 whereby the support strut is releasably fixed parallel to a vertical surface.
  4. 4. A support system for banners as claimed in claim 1 or claim 2 where banners are displayed on both sides of the support strut.
  5. 5. A support system for banners as claimed in any preceding claim where the support strut consists of segments that may be added or removed to vary the length of the support strut.
  6. 6. A support system for banners as claimed in any preceding claim where the support strut incorporates groves along which cables can be run.
