Abstract

The canopy, for protecting an occupant and the carriage from mildly inclement weather, comprises a frame with telescopic sections 1 for length adjustment to suit different carriages. The frame has sections 2 utilising elastic cord for snap-fit assembly. Cross-members have clamps for affixing to the bumper bar and/or frame of the carriage. The frame supports a canvas cover having zips for enabling access and a windscreen, also with zips.

Description

<Desc/Clms Page number 1>
CANOPY FOR AN INVALID CARRIAGE This invention relates to a canopy for an invalid carriage Background Canopies which attach to invalid carriages to provide protection for the carriage and occupant against mild inclement weather are already well known. However current invention dictates that a bespoke canopy must be made for each model of invalid carriage and bespoke bracketry to attach that canopy to each model is required. As dictated by current invention, canopies have a frame constructed from round metal tube which supports a canvas canopy, which protects against mild inclement weather.
Description This description pertains to the invention of a canopy with generic bracketry which will allow it to be attached to the majority of invalid carriages without bespoke bracketry or the need to remove or amend existing parts on the carriage. This particular invention will be described hereafter as fitted to an electric scooter, although it can be seen that this invention could be fitted to any invalid carriage and wheeled mobility product.
The invention has a frame constructed from metal tubing or extrusion which is length adjustable to allow it to fit the majority of invalid carriages (see figure 1). The frame sections are attached together with elastic cord which provides a secured'snap-fit'assembly and disassembly of the frame. The canopy frame can be adjusted to fit each carriage by length adjustment on the frame This is achieved using two telescopic tubes. It can be installed on to the bumper bar or frame of an invalid carriage by one or more clamps on the front and back of the canopy frame (see figure 2).
A canvas canopy is added to the frame to provide protection for the occupant and carriage against mildly inclement weather. Zips and openings are included in the canopy to allow the occupant to embark/disembark from the carriage without having to remove the canopy canvas. The front windscreen also features zips which can be operated from inside the canopy. This allows the user to move the canvas windscreen away from the field of vision from inside the canopy if visibility on the windscreen becomes a problem (through misting or dirt, for example).

Claims (5)

  1. Claims 1. Novelty is claimed for a canopy for a invalid carriage comprising a metal frame which supports canvas canopy, and which is length adjustable enabling it to fit the majority of mobility scooters,
  2. 2. Novelty is claimed for a frame for invalid carriage canopy with, length adjustment via telescopic tubing (see figure 1, point 2).
  3. 3. Novelty is claimed for a canopy with frame sections which are attached together with elastic cord, to provide a secure'snap-fit'assembly.
  4. 4. Novelty is claimed for a clamp for the frame described in claim 2 which will clamp on to the bumper bar or frame of the majority of invalid carriages (see figure 2).
  5. 5. Novelty is claimed for a material front windscreen which can be moved from the field of vision, from inside the canopy, in case of visibility problems with the windscreen.
