Abstract

Scaffolding mountable on a pitched roof comprises at least two ridge bases 1 which straddle the ridge and at least two roof bases (1, fig 1b), each respective ridge and roof base being connected by a ladder, pole or rod 12 held in U-shaped channels 2 on the upper surface of the base plates. A top plate (fig 1c) is secured to each base plate by a retaining pin. The upper surface of each top plate has a conventional aluminium scaffolding cup (6, fig 1c) pivotably mounted upon it to accept a scaffold pole (8, fig 1c). The pivot (5, fig 1c) can be locked once the correct angle of the scaffold pole has been achieved. Flat working surfaces can be constructed between the ridge base and the roof base using conventional scaffolding parts. The bottom surface of the ridge and roof bases maybe provided with a layer of soft material 4 to provide non-slip contact with the roof tiles and to minimise damage to the roof surface.

Description

<Desc/Clms Page number 1>
The roof mountable scaffolding comprises at least two ridge bases, at least two roof bases and a top plate attached to each ridge and roof base in use.
More than two roof bases and a top plate attached to each roof base in use, are needed to work on the lower level of the roof. A suitable ladder is attached between the ridge base and the roof base and the roof base or roof bases or a suitable pole or rod, etc, may be used in place of the ladder; the top plate being adapted to accept a scaffold pole.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of a Non-limiting example in which; Figure 1 a shows a ridge base plate Figure 1 b shows a roof base plate Figure 1 c shows a top plate Figure 2a shows a side elevation of an assembled system on a roof Figure 2b shows a 3-dimensional view of a roofing structure in place on a roof Each ridge base plate (Figure la) and roof base plate (Figure lb) Comprises a base plate (1) having at least two upright U-shaped sections (2) with a hole (3) drilled through them to enable the rung of the ladder to be fixed in the ridge base or roof base by means of a retaining pin or similar mechanism thus connecting the two base plates. The ridge base (Fig. la) is placed across the ridge tiles of the roof to form a stable anchoring point to which a ladder or similar connecting piece can be connected on one or both sides of the roof. Each ridge and roof base has a bottom layer of a soft material (4) such as a rubber, foam, polymer, natural or synthetic material to provide a non-slip contact with the roof tiles and to minimize damage to the existing roof tiles.
The top plate (Figure Ic) comprises a swivel mounting (5) on its top surface having a 90 degree lockable movement and attached to a conventional aluminium scaffolding cup (6). Two drilled plates (7) project downwards from the face opposite to the swivel and are sized to join into the U-shaped sections (2) of the ridge or roof base. The top plate is then fixed to the base plate by means of a retaining pin or similar mechanism.
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
Fixture of a top plate to each ridge and base plate with attachment of a ladder, pole, or rod extending between the ridge and roof plates thereby forms a strong and ridgid base from which to build a structure to enable roofmg work to be carried out. Conventional scaffolding poles (8) or towers are then inserted into the scaffolding cups and locked in place. The swivel mounting enables the correct angle to be formed and is lockable in position to allow a flat working surface to be constructed between the ridge base and roof base by means of conventional scaffolding parts.
An example structure is shown in side elevation in Figure 2a and in threedimensional view in Figure 2b. Figure 2a shows a scaffolding structure (9) constructed from a ridge assembly (10, ridge plate and top plate), base assembley (11, roof base plate and top plate) and interconnecting ladder (12). Figure 2b a shows a ladder on each side of the structure and attached within the outer Ushaped sections. It would be possible, if required, to place at least one ladder between the inner U-shaped sections or to replace one ladder by a suitable rod or pole.

Claims (6)

  1. CLAIMS 1. A roof mountable scaffolding comprising at least two ridge bases, at least two roof bases and a top plate attached to each roof and ridge base in use with a suitable connecting piece such as a ladder, pole or rod connecting a ridge base to a roof base; the top plate being adapted to accept a scaffold pole.
  2. 2. A roof mountable scaffold as claimed in Claim 1 wherein the ridge base and roof base comprise a base plate having at least two upright U-shaped sections each with a hole drilled through them.
  3. 3. A roof mountable scaffold as claimed in Claim 1 wherein the top plate comprises a swivel mounting on its top surface having a 90 degree lockable movement and attached to a conventional aluminium scaffolding cup with two drilled plates projecting downwards from the face opposite to the swivel and sized to fit the U-shaped sections of the ridge or roof base.
  4. 4. A roof mountable scaffold as claimed in any preceding claim wherein the connecting ladder, pole or rod is attached to each ridge base or roof base by means of a retaining pin.
  5. 5. A roof mountable scaffold as claimed in any preceding Claim wherein the swivel mounting on each top plate is adjusted and lockable to the correct angle to allow a flat working surface to be constructed between the ridge base and roof base by means of conventional scaffolding parts.
  6. 6. A roof mountable scaffold as claimed in Claims 1,2, 4 and 5 wherein each ridge and roof base has a bottom layer of soft material such as rubber foam, polymer, natural or synthetic material.
