Abstract

A handle 3 in conjunction with a pad suitable for the securement of material wipes thereto, the handle 3 engaging the pad through a press fit or snap fit connection. A cam mechanism 5 may be included in the handle 3 to lock the handle 3 with respect to the base plate 7 so as to centralise the base plate 7 and prevent forward movement when in use.

Description

<Desc/Clms Page number 1>
WIPE PAD AND HANDLE This invention relates to a wipe pad and handle.
With the development of allergen and antistatic wipes, for cleaning walls and other surfaces, as well as electrical equipment, for example the exterior of computers.
There has arose the need for a device to secure the hand held wipes in such a way as to cover the widest area whilst cleaning the surface of walls and at the same time being flexible enough to accommodate the contours of say a computer keyboard Such wipes are presented commercially both impregnated (wet) or dry, as with the allergen type, or dry for the application of antistatic and screen cleaning fluid.
A problem with the wipes is that they are flimsy in handling and crumple between the fingers when in use and the operators hand is open to injury from sharp edges.
The invention relates to a wipe-paint pad and handle to which such flexible materials, woven, non-woven, tissue or membrane maybe secured to make the handling and management of a such cleaning materials more efficient and safe.
It is known in prior art for a paint pad to have a channel formation mounted on or formed integrally with the body of the paint pad, the longitudinal edges having inwardly directed lips for the location of a handle having a base plate for a guideengaging formation within the channel, no less known is the cam member described in McCalla Patent GB 1463 220. designed for the engagements of two surfaces, between the handle base plate and the underside of the channel lip. The primary objective of the invention is to provide a handle for releasable attachment to the pad that was less susceptible to ware.
According to aspects of the McCalla invention page 1, line 18."a base plate which is a free sliding fit"and Pagel, line 74-76."a base plate having spaced opposed lateral edges for engagement with retrospective opposite longitudinal sides of the channel"would indicate that it was never envisaged that the handle would be used as a snap on or press in fit from the top of the channel, in practice the description of the base plate is such as to not allow this method of engagement.
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
The primary objective of this invention is to provide the means by which material hand held wipes may be efficiently secured to a pad by a releasable handle and other means described and to provide a smooth and flexible surface for the application of the wipes, yet it is not intended to restrict it to the primary objective.
According to one aspect of the invention there is proposed a pad. The body consisting of a layer of resilient foam, sealed on the base by a flexible brush piled material; the top being a synthetic thermoplastic material having a channel formation with inwardly directed lips along the longitudinal edges. The top being mounted on or formed integrally with the body of the pad. The exterior of the channel formation preferably having a barbed, serrated, or an adhesive surface According to another aspect of the invention there is provided a handle for the releasable engagement with a lipped channel consisting of a base plate with definitively spaced lateral edges as to accommodate a snap on or press in fit to secure the wipes.
According to another aspect, in the handle their is located a cam mechanism so designed, as when pressed, it comes into contact with front leading lip edge of the channel, to accommodate varying ply of material and centralising the base plate, creating further entrapment and preventing forward movement of the handle.
And further another aspect, there is an elongate slot in the base plate to accommodate the cam mechanism.
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
The invention will now be described further, by way of example only, with reference to the accompanying drawings.
Figure 1. Side elevation Wipe pad and handle.
Figure 2. Plan view of Wipe pad and base plate.
Figure 3. Side view of handle base plate and angle of engagement Referring now to the drawings and in particular to Fig 1.
The wipe pad channels 1. has a barbed, serrated or adhesive surface 2. to which dry wipes may adhere when they are wrapped around the pad, in addition the handle 3. will secure wet or dry the wipes when it is inserted in the top of the channel 1. and pressed in to place. The cam leaver 5. will engage the front lip of the channel 1. when pressed in to the locked position, centralising the base plate 7. and preventing forward movement when the pad is in use.
Referring now to figure 2. Plan view of the handle base plate and wipe pad.
The wipe pad 1. is seen with a barbed surface 2. in section, and the elongate slot 7.
Is to accommodate the improved cam.
Referring now to figure 3.
This shows the detail of the handle snap in engagement with the channels.
The rear lateral edge 10. of the base plate 7. having a leading edge to facilitate a press fit engagement with the channel 1. The base plate 7. being spaced to that distance between the root base of the front channel 11. and the front lip 12. of the rear channel, as to effect a snap in engagement.
