Coating-machines. - A pasting - machine principally, but not exclusively, intended for use in connection with cigar-making machines is provided with means to prevent delivery of the paste without stopping the machine. The paste, is normally delivered to a binder on a table 4 from a pasting-drum 22 revolving in a tank of paste, by a wheel 5 mounted on an arm 9, 10. This arm is pivoted near the end remote from the wheel 5 to an arm 12, which is oscillated by a rod 17 from the position shown in dotted lines to that shown in full lines, and vice versa. Moving parallel with the arm 12 is another arm 19, pivoted to the frame of the machine at 18, and connected at the top to the arm 12 by a link 21. Freely pivoted to the upper end of the arm 19 is a member 35 carrying an adjustable screw 40 arranged to coact with an axiallymovable pin 29 controlled through a cord 33 by the operator. This member 35 carries also a catch 41, which engages with a notah 42<1> on the arm 9, 10 when the pasting-wheel 5 is in contact with the pasting-drum 22. During the movement of the arm 12 from left to right towards paste-delivery position, the catch 41 remains locked until the screw 40 makes contact with the pin 29, when the lever 9, 10 is released to fall on to the binder lying on the table 4. In order to prevent delivery of paste, the pin 29 is moved out of the range of the screw 40 by means of the cord 33. When this is done. the lever 9, 10 remains locked by the member 35 above the table 4, and no paste is delivered. A spring 43 maintains contact between an adjustable screw 37 on the member 35 and an extension of the link 21. so that the member 35 moves parallel to the link 21. A further adjustable screw 38 in the member 35 coacts with the end 10 of the arm 9, 10. to arrest the fall of the arm when it is unlocked and moves off the table 4.
